Over the weekend I participated in Laura’s Labor Day 5 or 10 Mile Virtual Run.
Since I’m laying low and still testing the running waters till the Smuttynose Half Marathon at the end of the month, I thought this would be the next best thing to actually running a IRL race. If you’ve never done a virtual race, you should! There are lots in the blogging community so keep your eyes peeled for another one soon. The last one I did I won a case of Cheribundi. We were in cherry heaven!
My plan was to run 7 miles and count 5 of that towards the virtual run. Before I started off, I thought I would try the other taping technique Emily had shown me. The original technique with the kinesio tape begins to roll at the edges once I start to sweat. I’ve never actually finished a run with it all completely stuck and doing its job. The technique I used is a little bit more aggressive. The kneecap is physically pulled into the correct position and taped.
The sun was just coming up as I started off. I kicked myself for not planning on running at the beach. It would have been an amazing sight. Instead I settled on a route that brought me to a high point to view the landscape. It’s one of my favorites for catching the sun come up over the horizon.
The whole run itself was uneventful. Seven miles done with no knee pain. Yes! As I was running, I thought about what “magically” made the knee pain better. The tape? The inserts in my shoes? The stretching/strengthening/foam rolling? I’m kicking myself that I didn’t get the whole sports med doc, PT, etc ball rolling sooner. Maybe I would have been able to do the full marathon? I won’t ever know so I just keep on doing what I’m doing since it’s working.
Photo A Day
This month I’m jumping in on the Photo A Day fun. If you are on Instagram (I’m @happyfitmama. Follow me and I’ll follow back!), you’ve probably seen these every month. If you’re not familiar with it, you basically take one photo a day using the list of words as your inspiration and post it to Instagram with the designated hashtag. There are three that I’m attempting to do. I may not get in every day but I’ll try to jump in when I have time (and remember).
RunNerd Photo A Day from I Have Run. This is a specific running, training or health/fitness related contest. I’m taking pictures of this anyway so why not try to be more creative?
What the focus? (wtf?) from lululemon. Another exercise specific challenge. I had to participate in this one just because I love lulu and it’s a cute name for the challenge.
Embrace the Yoga Challenge from Athleta. September is National Yoga Month so Athleta wants everyone to try something new and embrace a challenge. Headstand is one of the challenge poses. If you’ve been a follower of mine for some time, you know that it’s one of my goals to get in (and stay in) that pose. Maybe their tutorials and the incentive to win some greats prizes will get me there? Side note – Sataya Jewelery is a prize. I love Satya Jewelery! I got a necklace from them over 3 years ago that I still wear daily.
