What is with this week? I feel like there has not been enough hours in the day to get everything done. My mind is kind of all over the place so I’d rather just let my Thursday thoughts spew out of my fingers onto the keyboard right now.
Here we go!
I ran for 20 minutes.
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you probably saw that I ran for 20 full minutes on the Alter-G at my physical therapy clinic. The amazing thing is that I had zero pain and ended up running the last few minutes with no support. It was just what I needed to give me a little boost in moral that I won’t be an injured runner forever.
My calves are a bundle of knots.
Speaking of PT, I’ve had two appointments with the new guy. We’ve done tons of stretching and strengthening for the ankles and calves. I can’t even remember how many different variations of calf raises I’ve done. With all that work, plus walking in a big ol’ boot and wearing my Dansko clogs to work (The only shoe that gives me extra height to even out the boot), my calves hate me. Extra time foam rolling and with The Stick hopefully will clear that up.
I joined a gym.
Remember last week when I posted about all of home gym essentials? As luck would have it, the nice people at Planet Fitness reached out to me about trying out their gym. So for the first time in 7 years, I am now a member of a gym. I have been like a kid in a candy store trying out all the new to me fun toys. I love the convenience of my home gym but I was getting bored. I needed to jazz it up and that’s definitely what I have been doing. My muscles are so sore from hitting the heavy weights. I missed them so much!
Planet Fitness invites new members to “spring into action” this May and jump start their springtime fitness routine. New members can join through May 12 for just $5 down (enrollment fee), then $10 a month with no commitment, making it as easy as possible for everyone to find their “fitness groove” without feeling the financial pinch. Plus, it would make a great Mother’s Day gift…just saying. 🙂
I had never been in a Planet Fitness before and pleasantly surprised by the variety of equipment. One reason why I never looked into a membership with PF is that I didn’t think they had group exercises classes. But they do! You won’t find spinning or yoga but it’s more small group training. And I’m super excited to play around more with the PF 360 although I’m only using the platform for step ups right now. Hopefully I’ll be doing box jumps soon enough.
So now that I joined a gym, how am I going to take gym selfies? I need all of you gym goers to give your best tips. So far I’ve felt like a complete fool doing it. But then again, isn’t that the usual way you should feel when taking a selfie? Lol!
I have a feeling I won’t be able to run the Mount Washington Road Race in June.
Mount Washington is 5 weeks from Saturday. I ran for 20 minutes on Tuesday, with most of it supported by the Alter-G. I’ve done zero hill training. Not really the best situation for a race that’s 7.6 miles all uphill. In fact my ortho told me uphill running is about the worst thing I could do for a fibula stress fracture in recovery. He didn’t totally dismiss the possibility of it but he didn’t laugh when I said, “But it’s only one hill!”
As much as I really, really want to run MWRR, I want to be running again, even if it is for two miles on flat ground. Sigh.
Next week Ron and I celebrate 15 years of marriage.
What the what?!?!!? How did we get old enough to be married that long?
At the end of the month, we are headed to Michigan for my cousin’s wedding. She was in our wedding 15 years ago and now both of my kids will be in hers. How is that possible when I haven’t aged at all?
We are all excited for the trip to see family and to get away. My fingers are crossed that we’ll have nice weather because the house that we are renting is on a lake with a boat and kayaks. I want to soak up some Vitamin D!
