Marathon Monday Week 7

Happy Monday everyone!

We survived Easter and the Easter Bunny! Today kicks off Laura’s Sugar Detox Challenge and I’m so ready. Especially after there was a mad dash to get all of the Reese’s Peanut Butter eggs gone before today. It’s just not Easter without having at least one of those. I love them way too much!

So bad news everyone. My right knee is acting up again. During my 16 miler it was giving me the same pain as last summer. I’m not sure the marathon is going to happen now.

Haha! April Fool’s!! Just kidding! ;)

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play at least one April Fool’s joke.

This week in marathon training was actually really good! After having an easy week, my legs felt rested and refreshed. And I think I might have found a potential long run fuel option too. Watch the vlog below for details!

Here’s how the week looked:

Sunday: Easy 6.5 miles + yoga

Monday: 55 minute bike trainer + total body strength + core

Tuesday: Tempo run – 1.5 miles warm up, 5 miles @ 8:03, 0.5 miles cool + yoga and core

Wednesday: 50 minute bike trainer + total body strength + yoga

Thursday: Easy 6 miles + yoga + core

Friday: REST!

Saturday: Long run – 16 miles

This week’s plan has a couple easy runs, a speed session and long run of 20 miles. Bring it on!

Marathon Monday Week 3

Hey everyone!

Here we are Monday again. After last week, this has got to be a better week. I can’t go into details about what’s going on, but I pulled on my “positive attitude” pants this morning so it’s all good, right?!

Synopsis of the week for those who like to see the numbers:

Sunday: 5 mile Easy Run + Cathe Tabatacise DVD

Monday: 50 minute Bike Trainer + total body strength

Tuesday: 6 mile Tempo, 4 miles @ 8:05 + yoga

Wednesday: Yoga

Thursday: 4 mile Easy Run + yoga

Friday: 50 minute Bike Trainer

Saturday: 16 miles Long Run

Question for the veteran marathon runners – How many 20 milers are usually in a typical 16 week marathon training plan? I’ve got 2 plans that I’m meshing together. One says 3 and the other 4. Thoughts?

Marathon Monday Week 1

Hi everyone!

I was planning on making this post a vlog but I’m feeling a little under the weather right now so this is going to be short and sweet. I’ve avoided all sickness so far this year so it was only a matter of time before it got me. Fingers crossed it’s quick and painless.

If you haven’t already guessed by the title of this post, I’m training for the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon!

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this race and I know a ton of people who are doing it this year. Peer pressure support from friends is always a factor. I’m optimistic that this training series will be better than the failed attempt last summer. After hitting the ‘submit’ button when registering, I wanted to vomit. Gah! I’m super nervous but excited at the same time. I’ve wanted this distance for quite some time. Deep breath. Here we go!

Each Monday I’ll be recapping the previous weeks training. I’m actually on week 4 of the training plan. It’s a 16 week plan but I didn’t want to announce that I was running VC till after putting in some long runs. I needed that for a little extra confidence boost.

Here’s how last weeks training looked:

Sunday: 12 miles on hard packed and soft snow. Practiced swearing. A LOT!

Monday: Easy run 4 miles + yoga in the evening

Tuesday: New Cathe DVD (more to come about that soon) + this WOD

Wednesday: Tempo run 6 miles + yoga in the evening

Thursday: Easy run 5 miles, yoga and strength

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 14 miles in the freakin’ snow AGAIN! Not as difficult running as last weeks long run but still challenging. I had a few close calls from ice under the snow. I’m hoping this is the last one for the season. Wishful thinking, I know.
