Summertime Fun

Hi everyone! Welcome to Fun Fabulous Friday. TGIF dances are happening everywhere at this very moment. Was it me or was this a really long week?

I had a wonderful post all planned today that had a workout and a vlog all about how I can get up at 5 a.m. and feel energizedย  to run. I realized that I haven’t done a workout vlog in quite a long time. I know you all missed ’em! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Well, that will all have to wait till next week because I had so much fun yesterday morning that I just had to share!

The original plan was for the kids and I to head to the beach so I could get a quick run in before we went shopping for my Foodie PenPal and then to pop in for a quick hello at a 90th birthday get together for one of my former patients. I wanted to be out the door by 8-8:30. That didn’t happen of course so it was more like 9 when we pulled out of the driveway because someone couldn’t decide what shoes they wanted to wear. (It wasn’t me if you’re wondering. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I had my Mizuno’s on and was ready to go). About a mile from home I realized that I forgot to bring the jogging stroller. D’oh! After a u-turn and a quick pickup back at home, we were finally on our way. Again.

I’ve probably said this a thousand times here but I absolutely love the beach. The smells, sounds, and sights are just calming no matter what the season.

After parking and getting everyone situated we were off. Right into a headwind. Gah! It took a while to get into a good pace but I finally found a rhythm. I wasn’t paying attention to my pace on my Garmin. I just used it for mileage. I decided to do a quick out and back for a total of 4 miles. On the way back to the car, we’d walk on the beach back to the car.

The tide was out when I completed the run on pavement. Perfect! It was A and L‘s turn to get their run on! And boy did they! Their new favorite thing to do is to exclaim their “running” as their little legs move fast and their arms pump forward and back. Makes this running Mama very proud!

I walked, they ran for a bit before they found the tide pools. Then the fun really begin. Splashing, laughing, running, squealing, rolling, jumping. Flip flops and shorts were tossed to the side. Smiles were on everyone’s faces including people walking by. They were quite entertaining! ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally tore them away after at least 30 minutes so we could continue on our way. We ran, some more and even raced. I lost if you were wondering. ๐Ÿ™‚ We waved to sea gulls and found shells.

We finally made it to the end of the beach. They were not happy when I had to strap them back in to get to the car. Honestly, I wasn’t too happy either to leave the beach! We could have stayed longer but it was nearing lunch and nap time I knew it was only a matter of minutes before major meltdowns would be erupting.

What was supposed to be a quick stop before running errands actually turned into a whole morning affair. Shopping for my Foodie PenPal didn’t happen. An appearance at the birthday celebration? Nope, missed that too. And you know what? I’m so glad we didn’t do any of that. We spent the day having fun, living in the moment. Life’s too short. Soak up the sun, enjoy the laughter. The “To Do” list will still be there later. I’m making it a priority to have more days like this and I hope you will too.

  1. Love this! Looks like a beautiful day. Good for you taking the time to enjoy and just be with the kids. Always worth it in the end. I just posted about taking the time we deserve to ENJOY — you and I are on the same page!

  2. That sounds like a fabulous way to spend the morning! I know that I often have time letting go of my “schedule” and “errands” etc and so great when something like this happens. And that first picture of the beach? Looks like heaven to me. I can’t wait to get tot he beach. Have fun this weekend at the Color Run!

  3. I would definitely be doing my Friday Happy Dance if my quads would allow it LOL. You know, the view of the ocean is really something I could never get tired of either. It’s just so beautiful and calming. Congrats on our PDR

  4. There something about running decides the water isn’t there? I don’t have the ocean but we have many many lakeshore miles so nearly as good for me! Love that you lived in the moment and shifted your priorities on the fly – it has to be done from time to time!! Have fun at the color run – id so love to do one – they need to bring it to western Canada!

  5. How fun!! I love when you have time to be spontaneous and go with the flow. Kids are great for slowing us down and helping us appreciate the little things around us. You’re such a great mama. Best wishes on the 18!!

  6. Such fun! I played hookey Thursday morning and took the kids for a walk thru the woods and skipping stones. We had a lot of fun including finding 2 toads and the older boys had to climb up a huge rock.
