Smoothies For Everyone

Smoothie City…sounds like a smoothie bar that would be in a strip mall, no? As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been on a major smoothie kick lately. It feels like I’m living in Smoothie City because that is the only thing that sounds good. I go through spurts it seems with smoothies. I like a green smoothie every now and then but most times I’d just rather chew my food. I feel more satisfied that way.

Since it’s been so warm for the past couple of weeks, cool eats have sounded great. In fact, I really haven’t been doing much cooking. Hot food just isn’t appetizing when it’s 90 degrees unless it’s off the grill. So here’s a few of my favorite smoothie’s from the past week that have been keeping me cool.

Chocolate Cherry Kale Smoothie

Green Monster (spinach, banana, pineapple)

Vega Chocolate Protein Powder, Almond Milk w/ scoop of Peanut Butter Smoothie

Smoothie Soup – Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, 1 frozen banana, scoop of almond butter topped off with grape nuts, fresh blueberries and Chia seeds.

I really like Smoothie Soup! It’s the best of a smoothie plus cereal/oatmeal. I think eating with a spoon makes me feel more satisfied, too. My kids really like it as well. They had finished their breakfast by the time I got mine ready yesterday morning. When I sat down to eat, I had two little birds with their mouths wide open at my elbows. I think I might have gotten 3 or 4 bites of breakfast.

Speaking of my little birds, we did a little experimenting in popsicle making yesterday.

Kiwi Banana Yogurt Pops

1 cup plain Chobani Greek Yogurt

1 frozen banana

2 fresh kiwis (skin removed)

1/3 cup milk of your choice

2 big handfuls of organic spinach

Blend all ingredients together. Pour into popsicle molds or in Dixie cups and insert popsicle sticks.

A and L devoured these pops! It was the perfect treat for a hot summer day.

This month WIAW is all about FOOD and FITNESS.

    all summer long.

  2. AWEsome!! Third smoothie related thing I’ve seen this morning. I think it is a sign that I need to get back on the smoothie wagon. Such a good way to pack in good stuff!! Kale, spinach, protein, fruit…

  3. I can’t wait to try smoothie soup! I too have been on a smoothie kick. Too hot to prepare and eat anything else. I’ve been thinking about making smoothie popsicles for the kids too so thanks for reminding me tho’ I’d have to change up your recipe since my kids are allergic to both bananas and kiwis. What??!? It’s true (and sad).

    1. Very sad!:( But you could easily replace with other fruits. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Btw-your smoothies during June inspired me! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Smoothie Soup! What a great idea. I recently have been thinking about getting a juicer, because I have heard of the benefits of those, but I may just make smoothie soup with oatmeal in the morning and stick to more solid foods. Smoothies sound good at pretty much all times of day, especially in the summer. Thanks! Great job.
