Random Friday Favorites

Hey everyone!

The long holiday weekend continues! We had a fun 4th of July at the pool, hung out and just enjoyed the return of gorgeous HOT summer weather.

Today is a lovely, lovely day in my house. Ron and I are both off from work BUT the kids are at school. Woo-hoo! I love my kids dearly but some days you just need a kid free day. If you are a parent, I’m sure you are shaking your head YES! I’ve got shopping, the beach and a deep tissue massage planned. I.Can’t.Wait.

Since I’ve got my fun day on the brain, it calls for a bullet point kind of post of random favorites and topics.

Picky Bars - happyfitmama.com

  • Picky Bars  –  I have a hard time finding an energy bar that I like. I’m picky. I want it to be a bar that has ingredients that I can pull out of my pantry at a moment’s notice and whip up a batch of similar tasting bars. I was recently sent 4 Picky Bars to try. Gluten and dairy free, these bars are powerhouses full of nothing but good stuff. If you look closely at the bar, you’ll see actually pieces of seeds or nuts. My favorite was the The Need for Seed. So flipping good! I made the mistake of trying to eat one in front of my kids. Of course, they wanted to share and of course, I only got one bite out of it. I haven’t been able to test the bars out as a pre-run long run fuel but I definitely will once I’m taken off the injured reserve. I’m even thinking of joining the Picky Club, where you get 18 bars delivered each month at a 10% savings. That’s awesome! *Disclaimer: I was asked to review Picky Bars in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated.*
  • Feetures! Plantar Fasciitis Sleeve – I just saw this on Jen’s (Running with the Girls) blog. She did a custom fit process with KindRunner (very cool btw) and has been having some foot issues. It was recommended that she try the PF sleeve. Has anyone tried this before? My PF is pretty mild but I want to do whatever I can so it doesn’t get worse. Anyone ever try one? Thoughts?
  • Peet’s Coffee – Peet’s Coffee now has single serve cups. It’s taken 5 years, but they have now found the perfect formula. If you have ever had their coffee, you know it’s good stuff! To celebrate, they are asking, “Do you give a cup?” with a “social sampling experiment” this summer. Each week you go to DoYouGiveACup.com and answer a question about something fun. The voting determines where they host their sampling events each week. *Disclaimer: Peet’s is giving me a gift card for promoting this project*
  • The Clymb – Have you seen this website yet? They’ve got everything you could ever ask for if you are a runner, skier/snowboard, cyclist, swimmer, hiker or you just like outdoor adventures at ridiculous prices. This is your site for well known brands and discounts on active trips. We bought the kids Strider Balance Bikes from there at a steal. The bad side to this site? I want to buy everything!

One more thing, don’t forget Mizuno’s Wave Sayonara go on sale TODAY! Seriously check these shoes out if you are looking to slowly transition to a more natural shoe. I can’t wait to run in mine again!

  1. I hadn’t heard about the PF sleeve and would be really interesting in hearing if it works for you. I’ve had some mild PF issues over the last few months and am looking for some gear changes that might help. I love the climb too!

  2. Good for you!!! Enjoy every second of your kid free day – those days are very necessary when your kids are young!!! (and in a few years, you will be like me – I’m the one asking my boys if they want to do something together!!)
Happy Friday – gonna be a fun one for you!!

  3. I love Picky Bars and have also been thinking about joining their club – I just need to pull the trigger – I buy so many of them anyway! Those Mizunos look pretty awesome 🙂 My favorite product lately is my new FlipBelt. It’s amazing!

  4. Peet’s! It really is the best. I so wish we had the stores around here.

My two cents on the PF sleeve–as someone who had a really bad case of PF years ago, I found that all the intervention tools helped, but in the end, it never fully went away. Once I quit all that stuff and just started living in my bare feet, oila, no PF and it’s been that way for two years. I think the trick is to build strong feet and all those other things just support the feet and in the end, weaken them by not allowing them to work. Experiment of one, of course!

  5. Like you, I’m “picky” about my health bars! Those look great, I’m going to order some. I recently tried “Kind” health bars while visiting family in Devner and love them! They are all natural and pretty low in cals too, and best of all taste awesome! I know Vitamin Cottage carries them, and I’ve purchased them at Kroger too.
