My New Half Marathon Plan

Fall is in full force here in New Hampshire! As much as I hate to see the warm weather leave, I really do love all the colors.

Now that I got through Smuttynose last weekend, I’m ready to get back into real training for my next half in November. Since my return to running, I’ve lost quite a bit of speed. Partly it’s because I’ve been trying to be conservative and not push too much too soon. I feel I’m ready to get back into my weekly tempo and speed runs.

I’ve had great success with Smart Coach previously so I’m going with it again. I like having a plan so I know the days, distances and pace for each workout. No thinking. Just doing.

I did my first prescribed speed work run yesterday. It felt GREAT!!

In other running news, I’ve got a new running buddy! I don’t really mind running by myself but now that it’s super dark and getting cold in the morning, some company would be nice. So I had the idea to post a message on the Coastal Athletic Association’s FB page to see if anyone in my area was crazy enough to run at 4:30 or 5 a.m. with me a couple a days a week. For about a week, I got no response. Nothing. Then, magically, someone responded! And then another and another! Woohoo! This week, only one of the ladies was able to run so we agreed to meet. Joanne is awesome! The miles flew by. Things went so great we were going to meet up on Thursday, too. Ironically, the one time I’m supposed to meet someone to run, I turn my alarm OFF in the middle of the night. I don’t even use an alarm when I run by myself.ย  D’Oh! I woke up at the time we were supposed to be meeting. I felt HORRIBLE! Thankfully, I got in touch with Joanne soon after so she didn’t think I was ditching her or kidnapped. She forgave me and we have plans to maybe do our long run together this weekend or at least have a standing date to run on two mornings during the week. Yay!!!

October Yoga Challenge

This month I’m doing Grow Soul Beautiful‘s fun yoga challenge on instagram.

It’s been so fun! I really wish I could get outside to take some more inventive pictures but by the time Ron or I are home, it’s way too dark. Here’s what the first few days looked like:

I’m linking up with Jill for Fitness Friday!

Have a great weekend!

  1. I love seeing all the GrowSoulBeautiful poses floating around Instgram! I almost posted my training plan today too… maybe next week. ๐Ÿ™‚ Looks like a good one. I’m surprised you do 12 the week before the half- is that how the last one was? I usually cut back to 8-10 one week before for a bit more taper time but otherwise, it looks great!

    1. This is the first time I’ve done 12 the week before with a plan although I just did that 2 weeks ago on my own. I felt good and really what’s 2 more miles when you’ve done 10 already? ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I wish I lived somewhere that had fall colors. I’m just excited today that it is actually about 67 degrees outside at 5:30 (still on it’s way to 97). Of course in a couple months I won’t be complaining when it is still 67 degrees outside.

How lucky that you found people to run so early in the morning. I’d be there too and I’m fortunate that my husband is also an early bird. So much safer, not to mention fun, to run with a buddy.

I love the yoga photo challenge. Your poses are beautiful!

  3. Ooh I’m jealous that you live somewhere with so much pretty fall foliage.
That running plan looks pretty good. I’d be at roughly the same half marathon pace plan, and I’d totally run with you at 5 am…too bad I live three states away and am 39 weeks pregnant! I’m sure you will find more early am running buddies too…did you try sneaker/runner stores yet?

  4. So jealous of your weather and the beautiful colors of the seasons. We don’t really get that here in Southern California.

Sometimes I like running with others, sometimes alone. I guess there’s a time for both, depending upon your mood.

Working my way up to a half-marathon, though I am doing a 13 mile obstacle course race next month!

  5. Love your blog! I haven’t run a half marathon since my girls were born but still run three times a week. Got to get back into the racing scene – thanks for being an inspiration!
