Marvelous is…

Hey guys!

I hope you had a great weekend. I had a simply marvelous one and now I’m too tired to do anything but recap it. Let’s keep the good vibes going with a little Marvelous is…

Marvelous is…having a coffee date with this lady.

Honolulu Marathon mile 25 |

It had been way too long since we had a time to chat over coffee or a run. We talked for an hour straight and would have gone on longer if we didn’t have other commitments. And guess what? Kailey is in training for her second marathon. She’s doing Sugarloaf in May. I can’t wait to cheer her on and run some training miles with her. Running friends really are the best! Now if only we could run again in Hawaii. Hmmm…we need to plan that asap.

Marvelous is…running a 30 mile week. This weekend was a big milestone in my injury comeback. It was the first time I hit 30 miles in 11 months. I purposely took my return to running super slow and on the conservative side. Why rush it when there’s so much at stake? Every run this week was solid. It feels amazing to know that I’m on the right path.

Marvelous is…Yesterday was another ski school day for the kids. Ron graciously took on Chaperoning duties while I got to spend a whole hour riding by myself. This was the first time I’ve EVER done that. It was a little strange. Especially when I hop on the quad chair with 3 random guys and they all start Vaping. Gross. I really don’t get the point of it. But then again, I don’t get the point of smoking cigarettes either.

Marvelous is…House of Cards is back! Anyone else flying through the episodes? I’m beginning to think this is more fact based than fiction given our current presidential candidates and their antics.

What’s NOT marvelous is…the movie Sisters. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler – it has to be good, right? I was soooo disappointed in it. I fell asleep after watching 30 minutes.

Marvelous is…Spring snowboarding before it’s Spring. Can we talk about the weather? It’s just ridiculous! While it’s melting all of the snow that the mountains do have, I’m not complaining. This weather makes spending the day at the mountain way better than if we were freezing our butts off. Have you spent the day with miserable 5 year old kids before? Not. But with the temps in the 30s and 40s, there is not one complaint of “I’m cold!”

Marvelous is…no one jumping off the chair lift. Last week my son forgot to get off the chair lift at the top. Rather than wait for the attendant to help him off when it stopped, he decided to jump. A five foot jump. Thankfully, he was ok. Scared, but ok. Thankfully, I was not on that chair and did not see this. This week, no one forgot to get off the chair. Phew!

What’s NOT marvelous is…people skiing/boarding out of control like idiots. There were so many close calls yesterday. More than I’ve ever seen before. And when the close calls are happening to my kids, it’s not cool. Ski in control, slow down when you see small kids in front of you and always remember that the person in front of you has the right away. Know the code and follow it!

What’s marvelous in your life right now?

  1. OH NOO (sisters :-)) I was HOPING marvelous with be WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT tonight with friends.
I usually love love love me some TINA.
But Id heard that same thing from people about Sisters.

  2. I love all the skiing you are getting to do and YES riding/skiing alone is so great EXCEPT for the awkward chairlift rides!
And, I have to say I’m not surprised about the Sisters movie. I love those two but their movies are just not that funny… whomp whomp. Maybe Whiskey Tango Foxtrot will be better but I’ll wait until I can watch it on demand…
Here’s to a week of weather hitting 70!!!! woot woot!

  3. So fun to catch up! Very glad to hear that no one jumped off the chairlift yesterday! ๐Ÿ˜›

  4. Oh gosh, I remember when we were kids, my brother for whatever reason didn’t get ON the lift right, and started to fall off before my dad was able to put the bar down, He was dangling 8 or 10 feet from the ground with my dad holding his jacket. Thankfully they reversed it and he was able to get on safely haha

    1. OMG – I would have been freaking out! The chair lift scares the pants off me no matter what. Watching my kids learn to ski has brought back all the bad skiing incidents I’ve seen in my life. Especially the horror stories of kids falling from the chair and breaking their leg, getting teeth knocked out from falling onto their ski poles.

  5. We just finished episode 4 of House of Cards! It’s so hard to stop once we get started! We’re TRYING to keep it to one episode a night, but that’s not going too well so far ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. But it’s SOOOO good! And then when you are done with the season, it’s so very sad. Because now you have to wait a LONG time for the next season.

  6. I haven’t run 30 miles in a week in a long time, but I think that’s WONDERFUL that you got in 30 miles! Praise God! I love that picture of you running down the sidewalk.

  7. Congrats on a 30 mile week! Oh but that’s a bummer that Sisters was disappointing. I almost rented in this weekend so maybe it’s good that I binged on 30 Rock instead. Love all that snowboarding you’re getting to do – beautiful pictures!

  8. Yay for hitting 30 miles! I’m getting back into the 30s again for the first time in moths as well and it feels so good.

Wish we had a girls spring weekend- we need a coffee date! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. YES!! I was so excited to see your update on your mileage last week. That makes me so happy for you!! You’ve been so smart with your comeback and taking it slowly. I, on the other hand, may be taking it too slowly. haha. I’ve become quite comfortable with my little short runs. I think that I’m finally mentally ready to build back up.

And the whole jumping off the chair lift thing? I totally did that when I was about your kids’ age too!! Same thing – I didn’t get off at the midway stop and was going up to the top! So I jumped.
