Marathon Monday Week 11

I know I say this every week but I can’t believe how time is flying! Only a few more weeks of Marathon Monday posts. It’s hard to believe that Vermont City Marathon is less than 4 weeks away. I’m beginning my last week of high mileage before it’s time to taper. Crazy!

Week 11 was a different kind of week. I usually do my long runs on Saturday however for the past two weeks, I’ve done a race on Sunday instead. Two Sundays of essentially speed work (and two PRs) wiped me out! I’ve got a speed session on the plan for Tuesday but I think I’ll skip it and do a tempo later in the week. Does that sound logical? Suggestions?

And here’s how it all looked on paper:

Sunday: Red’s Race, 5 miles + 2 miles for warm up

Monday: Bike trainer 55 minutes + total body strength

Tuesday: Easy 7 miles + yoga

Wednesday: Bike trainer 55 minutes + total body strength

Thursday: Easy 6 miles + yoga

Friday: REST

Saturday: Yoga

Sunday: Wallis Sands Half Marathon + 2 miles

On to the last week of high mileage! Wa-hoo!

  1. Great week! Yay for reaching the peak mileage week. I say continue with the Tuesday speed, it will help your body get the feel of pushing on tired legs for the last miles of the marathon. If it is too tough when you start then quit but give it a try.

  2. I really am excited for your marathon–two back-to-back PRs in halfs, in the midst of your highest mileage, is incredible. I think that yes, you should put speed off until later in the week. You just got some great tempo in with the race.

Envying your backyard recovery–I had to get on a plane yesterday after mine and it was not pretty for my legs.

  3. I seriously can’t believe how fast time is flying this year.

Congrats on the PR, marathon training can really help you in shorter races. I PR’d many times in races while training for longer races. Your body becomes much more efficient. 🙂

Your marathon will be here before you know it, and you have been training great so I have no doubt you will have a great race. I have friends that live up in VT and I considered going up to watch the race but I forgot that I am volunteering at the Buffalo marathon that weekend!

  4. You always have a great week! I’m not sure how you fit all this into your life. You need to write a post on how to fit it all in!
