Marathon Monday Week 1

Hi everyone!

I was planning on making this post a vlog but I’m feeling a little under the weather right now so this is going to be short and sweet. I’ve avoided all sickness so far this year so it was only a matter of time before it got me. Fingers crossed it’s quick and painless.

If you haven’t already guessed by the title of this post, I’m training for the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon!

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this race and I know a ton of people who are doing it this year. Peer pressure support from friends is always a factor. I’m optimistic that this training series will be better than the failed attempt last summer. After hitting the ‘submit’ button when registering, I wanted to vomit. Gah! I’m super nervous but excited at the same time. I’ve wanted this distance for quite some time. Deep breath. Here we go!

Marathon Monday -

Each Monday I’ll be recapping the previous weeks training. I’m actually on week 4 of the training plan. It’s a 16 week plan but I didn’t want to announce that I was running VC till after putting in some long runs. I needed that for a little extra confidence boost.

Here’s how last weeks training looked:

Sunday: 12 miles on hard packed and soft snow. Practiced swearing. A LOT!

Monday: Easy run 4 miles + yoga in the evening

Tuesday: New Cathe DVD (more to come about that soon) + this WOD

Wednesday: Tempo run 6 miles + yoga in the evening

Thursday: Easy run 5 miles, yoga and strength

Friday: Rest

Saturday: 14 miles in the freakin’ snow AGAIN! Not as difficult running as last weeks long run but still challenging. I had a few close calls from ice under the snow. I’m hoping this is the last one for the season. Wishful thinking, I know.

  1. Kudos to you for getting out in that nasty weather!!! I’m not a fan of running with snow on the ground…I do it but it’s definitely a time for swearing!! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you keep the sickies away!!

  2. How exciting! I wish I were going to be there when you cross the finish line. There is a line from the movie “Spirit of the Marathon” it says something like “no mater how fast or slow you go, the moment you cross the finish line of a marathon, your life will never be the same”. It is true, and it is equally as satisfying and emotional when you see a friend or even a stranger do the same. I’m really excited for you!

    1. Thank you so much! I vividly remember crossing the finish line at my first 1/2 marathon all these years later. I can only imagine how much bigger the marathon experience will be.

  3. Oh yay!!!! Can’t wait to follow along. And what Cathe DVD? I have been loving all the ones I’ve tried so far of the series. She’s basically my fitness idol and I think she can do no wrong, so not surprising I love them so much. haha!
