#LoziLu Mud Run Recap

I survived my weekend of FIRSTS in one piece. A HUGE thank you to Ann ( Hi, Ann! πŸ™‚ ) for babysitting for us. We owe you BIG time!

Erika and Charles’ wedding reception was beautiful. It was held atΒ  Flag Hill Winery. Of course I had to sample their goods. I had a delicious raspberry wine. I kept exclaiming, “this this the best wine I’ve ever had!” The raspberry flavor was very pronounced. I don’t know anything about wines so that is my version of wine snobbery. πŸ™‚ Ron and I enjoyed our drinks and wedding cake on a bench over looking the vineyards.

I had to get one last picture of Erika for the blog since she’s moving away and won’t be my running buddy anymore. We did not have matching clothes on this time. Now that would have been embarrassing. πŸ™‚

Isn’t she stunning?!

After shaking our money makers for a couple of hours we headed home because I had my other FIRST in the morning.

LoziLu was my first ever obstacle course mud run. I went in knowing nothing other than the description on their site. Our team, Badass Blogger Babes, was set to start in the first wave at 9 am. I wasn’t even sure who was on my team since we hadn’t really communicated at all in the past month. Amy tweeted me as I was parking saying she was already checked in. I rushed to check in and found a long line that was not moving too quickly. There was only 1 small area to check in. The website said it would take about 10 minutes to go through the line. I was there about 20 minutes at least. As I stood in line, I felt like a party pooper because I wasn’t in costume. So many cute things like Wonder Woman, capes, knee high socks. It gave me great ideas for next time! By the time I got my race bracelet and swag bag, the National Anthem was being played and our wave was lined up ready to go. I quickly found Amy, pinned my bib, ran my stuff to the valet and ran to the starting line. It was only Amy and I for our team. Not sure what happened with the other members.

Edited to add: Thanks to Amy’s husband for the being our personal photographer and Amy for sharing her pics!

The race location was Applecrest Farm orchards. We started out on the dirt road that lead to the orchards. After about a 1/4 mile we came upon our first obstacle, MUD! The girl in front of us promptly lost her shoe. I must admit it was fun to run through the mud with reckless abandon. That’s what I was there for so I wanted my money’s worth! I had to laugh that some people chose to not go through it. Hello! You signed up for a MUD RUN. Get dirty!

After that we were in the grass with the fruit trees. It got quite humid at that point. Intermixed with the trees were obstacles such as crawling over walls (some as high as 8-10 feet), crawling under walls, and balance beams. The highlight of the day was the giant slip ‘n slide.

SO MUCH FUN!!! I would have been content to go up and down on the slide for the whole run! We were washed clean and cooled off at the same time. Except at the bottom you land in a pile of mud. At least we were still cool!

I’m not a fan of heights so the scariest obstacle for me was the rope net that was 15 feet tall. I was fine going up and down. The top was the scariest. You had to swing a leg over while still holding on (for dear life) and find your footing. This is also with the net shaking because other women were on it. I didn’t let myself think too much about the height factor. I just concentrated on where my feet were going.

At the end of the race we got snacks, hosed ourselves off and walked the red carpet for pictures.

The swag bag included a stainless steel water bottle, a KIND bar, and a Sweaty Bands headband. It was a nice touch to get something other than a t-shirt.

There were a few things I would like to see done differently for next year’s race. There wasn’t too much mud. I was expecting more so it was kind of a let down. I also think there needs to be more variety of obstacles and closer together. Amy and I both thought they would be spaced within a 1/4 mile of each other but some were farther apart.

Overall I had fun doing LoziLu. I will definitely do it again next year. The nicest part of it was just running for fun. Although I will admit I got a little competitive. πŸ˜‰

I just wrapped up Marathon Training Week 7! In the video I say week 6. Opps! I took the recap vlog outside with us while we were enjoying Sunday Funday.

Have a great Monday!

Make sure to come back tomorrow because I’ve got a GIVEAWAY!!

  1. Sounds like a great time, even if there wasn’t much mud. Love the swag bag–it’s always fun to have different stuff.

Keep up the great marathon training!

  2. So much fun!!! Love the recap of both the wedding and the race! I totally want to do a mud run and get dirrrrrty! p.s. The gun show photo, <3 πŸ™‚

  3. You had such a fun weekend! I can see what you mean about there not being a lot of mud- I wasn’t even sure if that was your before or after pic! πŸ™‚ I would love to have a bottle over a t-shirt. And it’s fun you got to meet up with Amy!

    1. What you can’t tell from my after pic is that my shirt and shorts are dripping wet. I think I had an extra 10 pounds of weight to lug around at the end!

  4. Love the race recap. I’m trying to talk my husband into running the Warrior Dash this fall, so far he’s not interested. I’m also afraid of heights, so that is the one thing that would make me nervous.

    1. My advice – don’t look down and just concentrate on where your feet are going. You should do the Warrior Dash even if your hubby doesn’t want to. You’ll have a blast!

  5. What an awesome swag bag! Are you doing the color run at the end of the month in Amesbury?
