Lately…

What's been going on Lately... | happyfitmama.com

It’s time for the monthly Lately…

Lately…My love for running races has been nowhere to be found. I’m training for the Leaf Peepers half in October as part of Rise.Run.Retreat but I don’t really feel like I’m training. I keep saying that I am going to run a race before (in fact I’ve been saying that since the beginning of the year) but I just don’t feel the need to do it. I thought maybe I had the racing spark again after Mt. Washington but it died out. Part of the reason is that my posterior tib still bothers me some days. It’s not horrible but it’s noticeable if I step a certain way. Part of me thinks racing will take me over the edge and end up completely injured again.

Lately…Just like everyone else, I have been loving the Olympics. I watched a pre-Olympics special and was bawling like a baby. It’s kind of like when I watch Ironman Kona on TV. The stories behind the athletes get me every time! Last night I watched Synchronized Swimming. I had no idea what incredible athletes those women are. Holy strength and endurance!

Lately…I want to spend more mornings like this. Just another reason why I choose to wake up at crazy early times. I’ll take the sunrise on land or by sea. Always worth it.

Lately…Ron and I got hooked on a show called Kingdom. It’s a couple of years old that airs on the Audience Network (Never heard of it? Me either!). At first I thought it was totally cheesy but it grew on me. It’s about a retired MMA fighter who opens his own gym and trains athletes, including his two sons. One of the sons is Nick Jonas. Let’s just say Nick Jonas is all grown up and does stuff that little Nick Jonas would never even think of doing. It’s a totally addicting show and we stayed up way too late, too many nights watching episodes.

Lately…My yoga practice has been almost nonexistent. My current studio has me feeling blah. I’m not a fan of the schedule. I found another studio but I can’t switch until the end of September. And until school starts, I won’t be able to attend any morning weekday classes because my kids are done with camp.

Lately…I’m home all this week with the kids. Camp finished 2 weeks before school starts. Sounds great but not when you can’t take 2 weeks off for a vacation and you have no place for your kids to go. I’ve got this week with the kids and Ron has next week. We’ve been busy so far at the beach and doing things around town.

Lately…I recently learned that peanut butter does in fact get gum out of hair. After withholding for quite some time, I finally caved and let the kids try it. Guess who won’t be having gum anymore? Ugh. When does school start again?!?!

Lately…I’ve been thinking about getting a group of friends together to hike Mt. Washington before the summer ends. I wonder if I can find any takers?

Linking up with Amanda for Thinking Out Loud.

What’s been going on with you lately?

Have you ever had gum stuck in your hair? I’ve never. I’d be so irate if it happened to me.

  1. Gone Mojo

What you’re doing is admirable – You are ‘LISTENING’ to your body.

” Part of me thinks racing will take me over the edge and end up completely injured again.”

At times like these is not about ‘Racing’ but ‘Running’…To catch the light of day painting clouds of white & grey with hues of lavender, pink, purple and oranges and streaks of bright yellows that announce the rising sun as it breaks the horizon…you are lucky indeed!

    So, ‘Rise & Shine’

    – Your Mojo will return –

  2. Listen lady, it’s the end of summer, you seem a bit stressed and I think you need to just do EASY and what feels GOOD right now. Don’t force a race, or yoga or anything else that doesn’t get you excited. What’s the point? You definitely do not need to race before Leaf Peepers. If it makes you feel any better, my longest run has been 8 miles…and I have one more tri to get though before I start “training” for the half in VT. Oops!
I think my husband and I would love Kingdom! Now to find it…
I would love to hike Mt. Washington with you!! Can you please send a driver? πŸ™‚

    1. You would love Kingdom! When I was looking it up last night for this post, I realized that there are 3 episodes we missed. Guess what we watched way too late last night?!?!

  3. We have had gum stuck in the hair so many times over here. And by we I don’t mean me. But I do mean the 10-year-old and and and the goldendoodles mohawk (!).

  4. So while I’ve never had gum stuck in my hair, I have had it fall out into my hair, and I reacted by just grabbing it and shoving it back into my mouth (that sounds… TWSS). Might I mention that I was at a makeup counter with my mom in a NICE department story, and I think the makeup person almost died of shock. KLASSY

  5. I think listening to your body about the tib is a good idea. I’ve been pushing myself through training a bit, just waiting for the other shoe to drop (so to speak!). My body is in need of a break and I will do that after my marathon is done. Fingers crossed my issues don’t get worse!
I just love your pictures. That first picture is awesome. So strong!! Please come run with me so you can take some pictures of me πŸ™‚

  6. Hiking Mt. Washington sounds so fun! Too bad I’m on the wrong coast (although we have a Mt. Washington nearby as well). I think you’re being smart to listen to your body with both running and yoga. Also, that sunrise is gorgeous – sunrise paddleboarding sounds so enjoyable and both rejuvenating and energizing.

  7. OMG #1 – YES. I was just thinking the same thing. I’m “training” for Leaf Peeper but more so that I can just finish the damn thing and not make you all wait half an hour for me to cross the finish line ha! But in the back of my mind, I have the same worries about re-injuring myself. I hate that we’re both following the same ebbs and flows but know that I’m right there with you. And I’d love to hike Mt. Washington! Basically, I don’t want to deal with reality for the rest of the summer and I’d like to go back on vacation. And yoga, what’s that again??

  8. These are some beautiful pics!

It’s been a while since I’ve got gum stuck in my hair. But I SO remember the day it happened when I was about 7 or 8 and I was forbidden to chew gum for A LONG TIME! It was horrible.

  9. I bet I’d like Kingdom too! I just got finished watching Bloodlines an man I can’t wait until the next one!
Gum in my hair, I’d die! It’s hard enough keeping tangle out like it is now!

  10. I totally would have hiked Mt Washington with you if I was there! I have to say I feel the same way about races this year. I’m kind of training for Ragnar….kind of…which is 2 weeks before Leaf Peeper, so there’s that? We’ll be in the same boat πŸ˜‰
