Fall leaves lately... |

Lately…I’m coming out of the “sickness”. I spent all day Thursday and Friday in bed or on the couch. Most of Saturday was spent the same way. I don’t think I have watched that much TV in years. I also got hooked on an old show on ABC called Betrayal. I didn’t even realize it was from 3 years ago until I saw something about it being a throwback show. Now I can’t stop watching.

Lately…Yesterday I had my sinuses “adjusted” at the chiropractor. I have a standing monthly appointment and I mentioned that I had been sick. He then broke up some junk in my sinuses, did this weird gun thing on my upper chest and something with my lymph nodes. Whatever it was, it worked!

Lately…I miss running. Or really just being active. I’m feeling creaky and achy not from being sick but from not moving. No wonder people who don’t exercise feel like crap. I’m hoping to try for some time on the bike trainer and weights Wednesday morning. Fingers crossed. Seven days of no exercise makes Angela one cranky woman.

Fall running |

Lately…I’m thinking about running another half marathon before winter sets in. There’s one on my mind in 6 weeks. Maybe I’ll actually train for this one! Lol.

Lately…I’ve been thinking about 2017 goals. What do I really want – a marathon? But which one? And should I do spring or fall? And a coach. Who should I go with? I really like the idea of a local, in person coach. But there are so many other great coaches out there. What do you think?

Lately…I’ve been marveling at what blogging and social media has brought to my life. Who would ever thought that writing about things I love and sharing sweaty workout pics would give me opportunities to do amazing things and meet phenomenal people?

Little House on the Prairie |

Lately…I saw this book at the library in the children’s room and initially was going to read it to my kids. But first I’m reading it. Again. Thirty years later? Ron had no idea there were actual Little House on the Prairie books written by Half Pint. Ummm…yes! I guess they weren’t as popular with boys. Did anyone else love the books and the TV show as much as I did?

Lately…I‘m amazed at the things my kids say. When did they become so thoughtful and deep? And then the next minute so NOT thoughtful and deep.

Lately…The fall colors have been outstanding. I thought things were going to be blah after the late start but they have been spectacular.

Hiking with the family |

Lately…I’ve been thinking of my grandma. She’s my last living grandparent but isn’t too well, as in, any day now she may pass. She’s been one awesome grandma. I’ll always remember her famous chocolate chip cookies, making me special jell-o with fruit for all the holiday dinners (I was the picky kid who wouldn’t eat anything except jell-o), and instilling the love of “bumming” in me. She has a heart of gold and could talk to anybody and everybody she met. And she did. It would take forever to get through the grocery store with her!

Thanks for letting me do some Thinking Out Loud.

What’s been going on with you lately?

  1. I love these posts – – there’s some of my favorites – – because I adore getting that glimpse into the behind the scenes. I need to look at those Little House on the Prairie books, too. I wonder if they’ve held up better than my beloved Judy Blume books.
I tried to read Are you there God it’s me Margaret to the 10-year-old and it was very very old-fashioned πŸ™‚

  2. Prayers for your sweet grandma! I did and do love Little House on the Prairie…fun fact I love Sarah Plain and Tall and I have checked it out of the teen section to read recently SHHHH πŸ™‚ don’t tell!!!

Look at those leaves! So pretty, I’m embracing fall here too!

  3. I’m so glad you’re feeling better!!…and who knew the chiropractor could help with a cold? I need to get me one of those!
As for the coach, I can tell you that mine is local but I probably only see her once every 3 or 4 months. And usually it’s for her to watch my swim form or tweak my bike so…just my thoughts on that.
And I’ve been feeling the same exact way about my kids lately!! The things they say just blow me away…in a good and bad way – LOL!!

  4. That’s so interesting the chiropractor helped out your sinuses! I have never been to a chiropractor and am not really sure when I would see one vs a massage therapist or physical therapist. So many options (if only I had an endless supply of money to try them all out!).
Hope you are feeling all better soon. I’m hoping my interest in marathon running comes back in 2017 for a Fall marathon. My body is telling me it wants a break!

    1. I’ve seen all 3. The massage therapist and Chiro are routine (as in every month). I’d love to go to the PT more but insurance will only cover so much.

  5. HAppy to hear you are on the mend. So much nasty fall sickness around. Both my kids are sick. I always feel so creaky too after I have had a few days off, a function of getting older? I hope not. We love the Little House series. My daughter is reading Farmer Boy at school. Can’t wait to hear which marathon you pick!!!

  6. I loved the Little House books and TV show as a kid. I actually saw the whole series of books on sale a few years ago and I was tempted to get it because it was such a great deal.

I think the only series I love more that I also liked as a kid are the Anne of Green Gables books. I have all of them and read them every once in awhile. One of these days I’m going to get to PEI.

  7. Yuck- seven days off makes me feel so sluggish and grumpy too. Hope you’re feeling 100% soon. I loved the Little House on the Prairie! We just finished reading the whole series to L at bedtime. She was really into it- other than a few pages here and there that go into details about how Pa build their house or examining all the details of the gun he owned. But she loved the story all the way up through Laura getting older and married. I loved re-reading it for myself too!

  8. Oh geez! I had no idea a chiropractor could do sinus adjustments! I was just thinking today about how running and just being active, especially outside, always make me feel better! So glad to hear your on the mend! Laura Ingalls Wilder is my all time fave author! I still read chapters from -The Long Winter and By the Shores of Silver Lake! I catch old episodes on the Hallmark channel too!

  9. Wait, a chiropractor can adjust your sinuses?? Really? So interesting and I’m glad that you’re feeling better! Being sicks is the pits and like you, I hate not being able to move around. I’ve been really jealous of your fall leaves. The leaves here either haven’t changed or immediately turned that really depressing brown color. No super vibrant tress yet but I’m hoping they will all pop in the next couple of weeks. And 2017 – holy moly I can’t believe it’s around the corner. I’m excited to hear what you decide. And run the half! haha. πŸ™‚

  10. I went to see a chiro for the first time today (for piriformis/hip tightness problems) and I really liked it! Who knew they could help sinus problems too. I’m thinking about doing a half in 6 weeks too but haven’t run since my marathon Oct 9 so we’ll see. The break is needed but I miss running too!

    1. I’m kind of amazed at what the Chiro can do. They’ve helped me with everything from head to toes. Getting your foot adjusted sounds really gross, doesn’t feel the best but does wonders for it. Good luck with your piriformis!

  11. Sending you love and support for you grandmother! I don’t have any grandparents left, and I never met one, though I’ve heard I would have had quite the time with her πŸ˜€ My grandfather died the week after I started dating Alex. In many ways, I feel like Grandpa sent Alex to me, even though I don’t really believe in that. But Alex always felt right, just like my Grandpa did.

  12. I’m sorry to hear about your Grandma – mine is in a similar position, though the amount of time seems to be higher (it fluctuates depending on the day and doctor) I definitely agree about the fall colors – I think the late start helped it be even prettier here, since I feel like the trees are never on the same page with turning at my house, and I’ll have some totally green and some with no leaves at all.

  13. oh man I really hope you get to feeling better, that just sucks!!! Oddly I’m talking about taking a running break on the blog today…uh so maybe I won’t.

I agree blogging has changed my world in so many ways!
