I've been enjoying running friends lately | happyfitmama.comI caught you up on training (or whatever you want to call it) lately. Let’s talk life lately. Of course, there’s more running talk too.

Lately…I’ve been enjoying company on long runs. For many years, I only ran solo. It was my time for my own thoughts but I also didn’t think I belonged with other runners. I didn’t want to hold anyone back with not being able to keep up. Or run faster than the group and end up running solo because our paces weren’t a match. But after running most of my long runs with Sarah during Boston training, I looked forward to the company. It’s not an ideal situation for race day planning but it sure helps a lot when you are dealing with motivation or weather issues. Misery loves company when you are running 20 miles in single digit temps!

Lately…Remember when I said I haven’t been running in the super early morning hours because of the dark and my fear of creepers? I put a plea out on Facebook to local friends searching for someone to run with. I now have lots of options and even found a Facebook group of super early crazy people just like me. If you are looking for a running buddy, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there to meet up with new people. It pays off!

Lately…I’ve been on a seltzer kick (like everyone else in the nation). There was a time I thought seltzer was the most disgusting thing ever. But then I tried the new LaCroix flavors and it opened up the possibilities. My current favs are LaCroix Curate Cherry Lime, Poland Springs Cherry Lemon and Polar Orange Vanilla. I crave the fizz!

Lately…I’m super excited to reunite with new and old friends at Rise.Run.Retreat in Vermont. And this year I can participate in all things running. I can’t believe it’s next week!

Lately…I’m shocked at how much the leaves are changing in color right now. It’s so early. Last week when I did a Sunset Yoga Hike, it looked like mid October on sections of the trail. We had a super dry summer which is making the leaves look rather dull already. Kind of a bummer.

Michigan Winter Running |

Lately…Speaking of weather, I have a feeling we are in for a hard winter. It’s hard to think of winter when I’m sweating my arse off on every single run lately. But my yard is overflowing with acorns and the squirrels are squirrel-ier than ever. Someone told me the Old Wives Tale that more acorns and crazy squirrels means a hard winter. Two years ago, we had the same conditions. And we all remember that winter, right?ย  Or at least you do in the Northeast. That was the winter from hell.

Lately…I’ve been feeling very adult with our new bed and OSO mattress.

Lately…I got a new Stitch Fix! (FYI referral link) I try to get a new Fix with the changing of the seasons since I don’t do a ton of “regular” clothes shopping. This Fix was a good one. I almost kept everything just for the buy 5 discount but decided to keep two pairs of Kut from the Kloth jeans (I requested jeans since it’s been awhile since I bought any new ones) and the sweater from RetroD. I can’t resist elbow patches! The shirt was an almost but I didn’t think it was worth $58. And the jacket? That’s a big no. It reminded me of something from a horrible 80’s movie. I just can’t do the 80’s.

Thanks for letting me do some Thinking Out Loud.

What’s new in your life lately?

  3. That’s so cool that you found some early morning runners! I agree, it feels a bit scary to be out there on your own. I have recently found several running friend via our local chapter of Moms Run This Town. A great group of runners with all different paces.
I wish it would get cooler a bit faster around here. Looking forward to snuggling up in some long sleeves!!

  4. I’m so excited to meet you and everyone on the retreat – I cannot believe it’s just a week away! That’s awesome how you’ve found some morning runners. I hope your winter isn’t bad again! That winter was bad out in the Midwest as well and was what spurred us moving to Seattle. Too much snow!

  5. This is what I enjoyed also, having a long run with family or some of my closest friends. The good thing is that, you’re not just getting healthy but also enjoying the company of your loved ones and that’s what matters the most.
