Last week’s workouts were a good mix of running, strength training, yoga and doing whatever I wanted. I’m purposely laying low on mileage because my Achilles is still puffy. It’s not hurting (thankfully) but I’ve upped my eccentric calf stretches just to be on the safe side. And with my parents in town for Christmas, I’m taking the time to enjoy the season with short and sweet workouts.
Monday
30 minutes Elliptical
10 minutes Stepmill
Strength Training:
DB bench press
Squat with bench taps
Eccentric pull ups
Banded pull ups
Standing cable chop
KB swings
SL KB deadlift clean
Plank with cable pull
Tuesday
6.42 miles, 8:49 avg pace
After attempting to join a Six03 pub run for probably the past 6 years, I FINALLY made it! I even got all festive with my special once a year Christmas socks, hat and red Saucony Ride’s.
Let me tell you, this morning runner was hurting. Not because of how late it was (although 6 p.m. is SOOOO late!) but because I could not fall asleep that night. My brain was hopped up on running endorphins. How do you evening runners do it?!?! Only having a few hours in between my run and bedtime was not enough to wind me down. I swear I was awake ALL night. The actual run was fun (because Kailey) and ridiculously windy. Maybe I’ll hit up more pub runs in the future. I just have to factor in that I won’t sleep that night. Boo!
Wednesday
Since I didn’t sleep at all Tuesday night, I opted for a basement workout rather than going to the gym. It gave me an hour more of time in bed so it was worth it (because of course I did fall asleep at 3:30 a.m. – UGH!).
30 minutes bike
Strength training:
Bosu SL squat
Monster walk w/ min band
Lateral shuffle w/ mini band
Bear crawls w/ mini band
Bosu squats
Bosu plank push ups
Eccentric pull ups
Pull up shrugs
Thursday
5.03 miles, 8:44 avg/pace
It was another cold and dark AF morning run with Kyle and Charles. What else would I expect for official last day of Fall?
Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi
Friday
Rest day! Unless you count all the shopping my parents and I did that day. That counts as a workout right?
Saturday
3.8 mile walk
With my parents in town, Ron and I took advantage of having sitters. We started the day off with taking Cooper for an hour long walk on trails. We reminisced about how pre-kids we would do that all the time, multiple times a week. It’s funny how life changes. In another 8 years, maybe we’ll be back to our solo trail walks when our teenage kids want nothing to do with us. Lol! Regardless, it was a good morning followed by a good dinner out later that evening. Sigh. If only my parents lived closer. I’d be using them as sitters all the time. 🙂
Sunday
I kind of wanted to go for a run but I also wanted to lay low to rest my Achilles. I opted for a quick basement workout which got me sweaty and feeling accomplished.
20 minutes recumbent bike
Strength training:
Reverse lunge with single arm DB shoulder press
Squat with single arm DB reach across
Squat press
Overhead DB marches
Bear crawl DB row
Single leg bridge w/ DB chest press
Later on, the whole fam went for a windy and chilly walk along the summit of Mount Agamenticus followed by a trip to the Nubble Lighthouse. I love having visitors because then we can do all the touristy things!
I’m taking the rest of the week off from the blog to spend with family. If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful and joyous day with family and friends.
Merry Christmas!
How was your week in workouts?
Linking up with Hoho and Wendy for the weekly workout wrap up.
I’m hoping to get in a strength workout with the youngest daughter in the morning…she’s pursuing a personal trainer certification, so she will not cut me any slack LOL Our kids are all grown (the two youngest are in college), so the hubby and I are getting in a lot of “couple time” via walking the dog. He runs, but is very fair-weather about it…so not in the winter (ha! his loss). Merry Christmas!!
A pub run sounds super fun! Only wish I was closer to join you on those pub runs!!! Cheers to 2019!
Back in my running days, I used to do most of my running in the evening. It definitely gave me a little bit of extra energy the following hours, but it always resulted in something like an “energy crash” and I would sleep like a baby haha!
