Last Week’s Workouts

Last week's workouts | happyfitmama.comLast week’s workouts had me feeling blah.  I’m not sure if it’s still some residual fatigue from Cranmore Mountain or if it’s allergies (which have me sneezing every two seconds it seems).  Every run this week felt off.  I know every week can’t be fantastic so hopefully this will be a little blip and I’ll be good as new this week.

5.1 mile run, 8:56 avg/pace, 302 ft elev gain

This run had a beautiful sunrise (see first pic) but even that could shake the blah’s.  I just was not feeling this run at all. My left foot felt a little locked up but thankfully, I had my monthly appointment with my chiropractor later that day.  He did some crack-a-lackin’ and I was good to go.

Wednesday

6 mile run with 2 mega hill repeats, 8:59 avg/pace, 507 ft elev gain

This was Kyle’s last mini workout before Mount Washington.  For the fun of it, we did a couple of mega hill climbs mixed into the run.  If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you know that she CRUSHED the race on Saturday.  I’m so beyond proud on how much she has improved as a runner in the short time I coached her for Mount Washington.  Especially since this was the first time EVER that she followed a training plan.  She said it was the hardest thing she’s ever done but she for sure will be putting her name in for the lottery next year.  I can’t wait to see what goal she crushes next!

6 mile trail run, 10:08 avg/pace, 497 ft elev gain

I needed a little dirt in my life so I gave myself one hour to play on the trails.  I had a blast but was really feeling tired the last mile.  Thankfully, it was a flat as a pancake section that I could just jog it in as a cool down.

I realized that I’ve been slacking on my Stepmill time so I made it a point to up my time for the next few weeks as part of prep for Loon Mountain and some hikes I have planned this summer.  That thing causes SO MUCH sweat.  I think it’s comparable to the amount I sweat with running.  And that’s A LOT!

Saturday

10 mile run, 8:56 avg/pace, 605 ft elev gain

This run was not fun.  It was after 8 a.m. by the time I started out.  It was warm but low humidity, yet I struggled.  The first 3 miles felt like 30.  My mind was all over the place and thoughts of calling it quits were constantly in my head. I purposely picked a route that hit almost every major hill in town.  Is it weird that I felt better on the climbs rather than the flats?  I tried to pull it together and push through by staying in the mile I was in.  Thankfully, by mile 8, I was in a better place and squeaked out the remaining 2.

Last week's workouts | happyfitmama.comAnd then I spent the remainder of the day at Avery’s soccer game and hanging out with 12 eight year olds for the kids’ birthday party.  The birthday party was WAY more exhausting than the run!

  1. Hopefully once the pollen count goes down, you’ll be feeling so much better! You still had good workouts in spite of not feeling good. I do not miss those 8 year old BD parties. At all.

  2. I think my allergies have been affecting my runs too. I feel like every run lately it takes me at least a mile or two to get into it. On Saturday my legs were just not feeling it but about midway through my run I mentally felt really good, which was enough to push me through. Unlike you though, the hills were a struggle and the downhills/flats felt great!

  3. Those 10 milers can be tricky! It’s such a long time and if you’re not feeling it from the start, it can be brutal but also a chance to work on your mental game which obviously yours is on point 🙂
    Hope you’re back to feeling like yourself this week and can shake the blahs. Allergies have been off the charts so I’m sure it has something to do with it.

  4. I think I need to check into that crack-a-lackin’ thing! The heat has definitely got me blah about running right now. Great job pushing through on your long run (I bailed!). I remember those kid parties. They are definitely more tiring than any run. I’m glad you took a rest day on Sunday! Thanks for linking.

  5. My allergies have been insane this week. The pine pollen is turning everything green. Those mountain races can certainly suck a lot out of you! Hopefully this week will be better!

  6. Congrats to you as a coach and to Kyle on her race! I dealt with allergies for a while when the cotton wood was falling in May – it was so thick it looked like snow on the ground. I hope you feel better and have a better week of running this week!
