Last Week’s Workouts

Last week's workouts |

Last week’s workouts were all about welcoming summer back.  Or at least for a few days before spring returned.  Or finally decided to show up?  I’m so confused by the weather. Monday it was 50 degrees.  Wednesday, 94 degrees.  Sunday 60 degrees and raining.  Is it spring?  Is it summer?  I don’t care as long as it’s not winter again!

Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi Yoga

6 mile run, 8:49 avg pace, 258 ft elev gain

My toes were still feeling beat up from Sunday’s trail run. I decided to skip the trails and take it easy on the roads.  Besides, it was absolutely gorgeous out.  My first tank and shorts run of the season.  Woohoo!

Things loosened up with each mile.  I actually felt a ton better after the run.  Yes!

This workout was short and sweet because I had to go into work earlier than usual.  I could have set my alarm for 30 minutes earlier than usual to get a full workout in but that would have been way too close to the 3 a.m. hour.  No thanks.

5 mile run, 8:41 avg pace, 243 ft elev gain

Oh happy day!  Summer decided to stay another day.  I woke up to 63 degrees and what felt like 100% humidity (no clue what it was!).  I.Loved.It.  After the winter we had, I want to sweat and not just because I have loads of layers on.  I want to wear tanks and shorts for all my runs now.  Please let this weather stay for the next few months!

Later in the day I got in a 60 minute Yoga Flow class @ Bending Bodhi Yoga.  My hips were happy when we stayed in pigeon forever.

6.4 mile run with 4 hill repeats, 765 ft elev gain, 9:32 avg pace

Kyle and I met up for a rolling hill run that included tackling the mega hill in town 4 times.  We had a good laugh that in all the months that we’ve been running together, this is the first time we’ve been able to show some skin. Tanks and shorts are the best!

Clearly, I do my best running with my eyes closed.  🙂

5.1 mile run, 8:58 avg pace, 259 ft elev gain

There really wasn’t anything spectacular about this run.  I busted out as many miles as I could before shuttling kids around to sports.  Saturday mornings in May are going to be cray-cray.

6.8 mile trail run, 822 ft elev gain, 10:04 avg pace

I slept in, had a late breakfast and kind of procrastinated going for a run. I really didn’t want to run on the roads. I spontaneously decided to hit the trails.  I couldn’t decide on which one so I asked Ron to pick.  He did good picking the Stratham Hill trails.  The trails were in immaculate condition since the weekly Thursday night trail running series started up last week. Nothing like having swept clean trails!  I would have run longer but I was running short on time.  Maybe I’ll try to make it to one of the Thursday night races this month?

  1. I feel the same about not knowing what the hell season we are in but at least it’s not winter!! I was out cycling on the 95 degree day and things got u.g.l.y!! I love that you can run with a friend and then head into perfectly groomed trails solo – how amazing!! And I hear you on the Saturdays in May – serenity now!

    1. I really have been enjoying my social time with running but my solo runs are just as important. I thought about putting a post on my running groups Facebook page gauging interest to see if anyone wanted to join my trail run. But then I decided I wanted some alone time. I’m glad I did!

    1. I feel you on the gloves thing. I’ll be wearing a tank and shorts on my run but still have gloves on. Gloves are a year round thing for me.

  2. We’ve sure had the ups and downs, weather-wise, this spring!!! This week felt more like spring tho and even though we had some warm days, we didn’t go back to the deep freeze. I hope that’s it for winter.

It’s nice to see you continuing to run well! Enjoy!

    1. I think we are back in spring mode. Although I just looked at the forecast for tomorrow and it’s supposed to be in the 30s in the morning. What?!?! At least the high is in the 60s. No more winter!

  3. You got in some solid elevation in those runs this week! I’m looking forward to my knee feeling 100% so I can enjoy the perfect weather we have right now… I have a feeling it’s going to be full blown summer when I jump back in.

    1. It was fun to hit the hills and trails to get the elevation in. I still laugh when two years ago, I hated hills so much. Now, I really, really like the grind to the summit.

  4. That’s some impressive elevation gain for the week! I’ve loved being able to wear shorts and tees or tank on most of my runs now – by this time of year, I don’t want to wear long sleeve anymore. Enjoy your warm weather!

  5. Nice week. And, WooHoo for being able to show some skin! All I can see on my weather app is 90+ for the next 10 days. So, I’m all cranky-pants. I’m tired of marathon training in this heat. Trail running would help, but I sadly don’t have any nearby. You’re very lucky! Thanks for linking!
