Last Week’s Workouts

Last week's workouts |

Happy Marathon Monday!

I’m so stoked to track all my friends running the Boston Marathon today!  I can’t say that I’m totally envious of them because the weather is looking downright nasty.  I still have flashbacks from the rain, cold, and wind from 3 years ago.  No thank you!

I’ll happily be tracking and watching the elites while I’m at work.  Who are you rooting for?  I’m thinking either Jordan Hasay (I wrote this BEFORE she pulled out of the race Sunday afternoon) or Molly Huddle are good contenders for the top spot for the women.

7 mile run, 2 mile warm up run, hill repeats x 7, 2+ mile cool down run, 1126 ft elev gain

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done hill repeats but the good friend/coach that I am, I happily agreed to run the mega hill in town with Kyle.  It was a super foggy morning where by the light of our headlamps, it almost looked like it was snowing.  Nope.  Just frozen fog.  Spring…annnnnnny day now.

Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi

I debated about going to yoga today because my legs were feeling quite beat up.  But I told myself it would be good to stretch them out in class.  As luck would have it, the teacher that almost always does a gentle flow, planned the class for us to find our “playful” side which meant all the poses were animal centered.  I can now say I have done frog jump squats in yoga…over and over and over again.  I can’t really say that my legs were feeling any better after class.

Thanks, yoga.

4 mile run, 8:49 avg pace, 160 ft elev gain

Easy run enjoying the birds singing, the sun rising and me running.

Easy Cooper pace trail miles with no data because I didn’t track it.

I don’t even know if you could call this a run.  Let’s just call it being active on the trails.

10 miles – 5 on treadmill and 5 outside

Sunday morning, I woke to the sound of frozen pellets hitting the windows.  By the time I was up and dressed, ready to run, it had turned to freezing rain. It didn’t look so bad so I took off.  I soon found that my feet were sliding out from behind me with every step.  I lasted maybe a half mile before I turned back towards home to run on the treadmill.

My mind was ALL over the place on the treadmill.  I could not get into it.  I gave up after 5 miles and changed back into my layers to finish up outside.

By then, the roads were improved but there was still freezing rain.  I had a nice coat of ice all over my hat, jacket and leggings.

Dear Winter, LEAVE!!!

On a brighter note, Sarah and I headed down to Boston for the afternoon to hang out with our running buddies from afar who were in town for the marathon.  It was good to reconnect with Laura (who is running today!) and Natalie.  It’s been years since we’ve seen each other in person but we pick back up right where we left off.  I’m always amazed at how the internet can bring so many people from every corner of the earth together.  Social media gets a lot of crap but it can bring some really great people into your life too.

Linking up with Hoho and Wendy for the weekly workout wrap up.

How were your week in workouts?

Who are you cheering for at Boston?

  1. Looks like a great week, other than the freezing rain! How fun that you got to meet up with the other ladies in Boston. I am not envious of running in that weather (as I sit here listening to the pouring rain and wind outside…).

  2. This weather is off the charts ridiculous. My kids have a 2 hour delay!!! What? Grrrr
So upset I missed out on seeing you all yesterday but I couldn’t leave my kiddos alone and I certainly wasn’t brining them – LOL!! I’m loving spending all this time with Nat though!! And, I must say, I’m so happy I’m not running today…but really looking forward to seeing what these women can do!

  3. Yes, I woke up to snow this morning! Come on man!

The last time I did frog jumps, it was at CrossFit and I had shin splints for a week after than. Nope, no more frog jumps for me!

Have fun in Boston! I’m cheering on all the American ladies, but especially my girl Deena!

  4. I think if social media is used well, it really can bring people together in such phenomenal ways. So glad you all got to hang out together – love all the smiles in that photo. Well done on a great week of training and for surviving that very intense sounding yoga class!

  5. So fun that you all got to meet up! Yesterday I really wished I was in Boston… Today I can’t say the same watching this weather! I’m cheering on Molly and Shalane today. I have always liked Molly since she used to live in Indiana and consistently is so strong in races.

  6. Great week of workouts lady! I’m so excited about watching Boston today as well …actually, I had appointments this morning so I DVRd it and I”m watching it right now!

Amen to social media bringing some wonderful people in our lives!

  7. Sorry about your weather. I won’t say anything about what our weather is here in So. Cal. 😉
I love how social media can bring people together. I’m hoping someday I can meet and run with some of the people across the country.
Frog jump squats? That doesn’t sound like yoga to me. 🙂
