Last week’s workouts had a bump in the road. I came down with a nasty cold that had me hacking, sneezing and just feeling run down. I took more rest days than I had planned and that did the trick in kicking it mostly to the curb.
6.1 mile run, 8:46 avg/pace, 303 ft elev gain
Monday’s are usually my cross training days but I switched it up. There was nothing really exciting about it. Easy miles, getting it done before the snow started to fall. Yup, April Fool’s jokes don’t stop on April 1st in the Northeast.

I woke up to the sound of pouring rain outside my window. What was also pouring was snot out of my nose and a sore throat. I soon got a text from Kyle about scrapping plans for hill repeats and taking it easy since she wasn’t feel so great either. We both puttered through the run. Needless to say we probably should have said forget the whole run since we both started feeling even more sick as the day went on.

This workout used up all the energy I had on Thursday. When I don’t feel like exercising at all, I know my body needs rest. For the rest of the day, that’s what I did. I even got a power nap in the afternoon.
Rest! My cold didn’t want me to do much of anything so I took the day off from exercise except I still had to lead my strength training classes at work.
4 mile run,
I woke up feeling much better so I laced up my running shoes and trotted out an easy 4 miles. I then spent 3 hours volunteering at bib pick up for Red’s Race. I debated about racing but ultimately decided I wasn’t well enough to push the pedal on speed. It’s hard to believe that the only time I’ve run this race was 5 years ago. I really should run it to see what I can do know. Although a part of me is afraid that I won’t be even close to the time from 5 years ago.
8.3 mile run, 8:16 avg/pace, 380 ft elev gain
Since I opted out of racing, I offered up pacing Kyle to a 5 mile PR. She did great and got a 3 minute PR and placed 3rd in her age group. I can’t say that I’m the greatest pacer because I got a little too competitive at times in wanting to chase people down. Whoops.
Linking up with Hoho and Wendy for the weekly workout wrap up.
