I think the highlight of last week’s workouts wasn’t that I had a strong week of running.  It was that I wore shorts on my run 3 times.  THREE TIMES!!!  It felt amazing to have fresh air and sunshine on my skin.

And see that snow in the picture above?  That was on Tuesday.  It was all gone by Thursday.  YAASSSSSSSS!!!  Hello spring!

Monday

Tuesday

Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi

8 mile Fartlek run, 8:35 avg/pace, 390 ft elev gain

I love a good Fartlek!  Actually, besides running Fartlek’s, I really love saying the word Fartlek.  It’s a fun word, right?  I started off with 2 mile warm up and moved into a pyramid Fartlek of 1-2-3-2-1 (1 minute hard/1 minute easy, 2 minutes hard/2 minutes easy, etc) and then ran the remainder miles at an easy pace to get to 8.

It was a fun run despite making the mistake of running the route that hits ALL the hills during the workout portion.  Why do I always do that?

But it was 50 degrees, the sun was shining and I was wearing shorts.  It was ALL good!

Wednesday

6 mile run, 8:45 avg/pace, 244 ft elev gain

My legs were feeling a little tired from yesterday’s speed work but I had promised Kyle that I’d meet up for some easy miles.

It’s always nice to start the day off with a run and chatting about how we have the solution to all of the world’s problems.  It feels so good for the soul!

Thursday

I had every intention of only hitting up the gym today but I when I saw the forecast for Friday morning, I made the decision to run Thursday afternoon and make Friday a complete rest day.  Fifty degrees, daylight and no precipitation?  I’ll take it over upper 30s, darkness and rain!

Friday

REST DAY!

Saturday

12.1 mile run, 9:09 avg/pace, 622 ft elev gain

I had grand plans of waking up early to get my run in before taking Avery to gymnastics.  Those grand plans were foiled when I woke up at 6:37…37 minutes AFTER I had hoped to be starting my run.  Womp womp womp.  Plans shifted to running after gymnastics.  I really didn’t want to run long solo so I texted my friend Kailey (for a good time, read our Honolulu Marathon Recap…I just did and have a big smile on my face right now…so many great memories!) with hopes that she’d be able to meet up. As luck would have it, she had 10 mile and would be happy to meet.

The sun was shining, it was 50 degrees, and we both had on orange shirts and black shorts.  Twinning is winning.

I asked Kailey if she wanted a sort of flat or hilly route.  She said surprise me.  Hahaha.  Be careful what you ask for!  I do like my hills after all. 🙂

Sunday

I had thought about running but when my kids decided to wake up at 5 a.m. and stay up because they were so excited about the Easter Bunny, I decided to make it a lazy Sunday.  It was a beautiful (yet extremely windy) day so we headed to the beach for a walk.

I can’t believe March is over and April is here.  I wrapped up March with 148 miles running.  It’s been over a year since I’ve done that much mileage.  I can’t wait to see what happens in April!

  1. Wow, that’s great mileage!! Nice elevation on your long run, too. I wore shorts last night- then woke up to snow this morning! Hopefully the last. For real this time.

  2. Wow, I didn’t realize you were running all the miles! Looks like you’re in the sweet spot. No shorts here. That wind off Lake Michigan reaches far inland (i live about 25 miles from the lakefront) and it is COLD. I don’t know why but this year seems especially rough. It has to warm up, right?

    1. It depends. It’s usually not immediately after a run. If I run early in the morning, it’s about 3 hours later when I go to class. Some days I’ll go to class first and then run. Ideally I’d run and go straight to class but my schedule doesn’t allow that.

    1. I had really hoped my shorts wearing would continue but it’s still only 30 in the early morning…and then it did snow today. I guess I jinxed it!
