Last Week’s Workouts

Last week's workouts |

Last week’s workouts had all four seasons packed in 7 days

There’s a saying, “If you don’t like the weather in New England, wait 5 minutes”.

Last week’s workouts reminded me of that saying every single day.

Last week I ran in ALL the layers. This week I ran in shorts and a t-shirt.

So freaking bizarre. And now we are back to “normal” temps but all of our wonderful snow is gone.  If it’s going to be cold, I want snow to play in.  Playing in frozen dirt isn’t very fun.

The day I set my alarm for p.m. instead of a.m.  I woke up 20 minutes later than I intended on my own.  Thankfully, a workout was not completely out of the question.  I hustled down to the basement for a workout instead.

30 minutes recumbent bike

3 sets of 10:

Monster walks

Side lunge

Front/side plank (30 sec each)

Med ball squat toss

Glute bridge with band

Bear crawls with band around forearms

KB single leg deadlift

KB swing

Med ball push ups

Bosu ball balance exercises

When I started the lululemon/Strava 40|80 Challenge, I had no intention of running 80k.  Especially with the frigid temps last week.  But then I hit 40k and this week was so mild, I thought why not? So I ran again the afternoon.

3 miles in the p.m. in 50 degree weather.  What?!?!

5+ mile super foggy run with Kyle in the a.m. Look at me…two early morning runs back to back.

Beer and Balance Workshop: Hip Hop Yoga Flow

You guys, this workshop was SO good.  Picture it: A kick ass playlist of 90’s hip hop (Naughty by Nature, Missy Elliot, etc), sequences that made our hearts thump to the beat of the music, and a teacher that made us laugh, sweat and reminded us we are f-ing awesome for 90 minutes.  My hair was soaked.  I had sweat dripping off my chin.  It was so fun.  And then we went across the street and enjoyed a beer.

Perfect way to end a long work week!

I woke up to the sound of pouring rain.  I had a short amount of time to get in my run before shuttling around kiddos for Saturday morning sports.  I started off in the rain and heavy fog but the rain stopped within the first mile of my of the 5 miles I ran while wearing shorts and a t-shirt.  Yes. You read that right. Shorts and a t-shirt.  It was 55 degrees when it was below zero less than a week ago.  Bizarre!

Last week's workouts |

In the late afternoon I went out for run #2 (because I still needed 13k to complete the 40|80 challenge and I wasn’t going to have enough time to get in the miles on Sunday). At that time it was 30 degrees.  Winter has returned but all of the snow melted.

With an easy 3.2 mile run, I completed the 40|80 challenge and hit my highest weekly mileage since July. It feels good to be back to my normal running.

Last week's workouts |

Last week when I saw my chiropractor, he remarked about how my ankles and feet had just the right amount of flexion again.  He even went as far as to tell me I was normal.  Imagine that?  Me.  Normal.  Ha!

Linking up with Hoho and Wendy for the weekly workout wrap up.

How was your week in workouts?

Was your weather bonkers too?

  1. Congrats on completing the challenge! We didn’t have temps that were warm enough for shorts, but it was nice to peel off some of the layers!

That yoga class sounds fun! I’ve stopped going to the studio because it’s just not working for me right now.

  2. This weather is absolutely bananas!! And it sucks when you’re trying to ski!! Anyway look at YOU with your 2 a day runs. Wow!! So impressive mama. And that hip hop yoga? OMG sign me up!!!

    1. My kids had ski club on Sunday and it was so cold. I didn’t even buy a ticket because I knew they weren’t going to last too long with the cold. And the conditions were horrendous. Ice and bare ground everywhere. I feel so bad for the mountains!

  3. Longtime reader but never commented before…you are giving me hope with the “return to normal”of your feet after all you’ve been through. Was running with my German Shepherd in early November and hit uneven sidewalk just wrong and gave myself a massive inversion sprain with torn ligaments. Still not normal, even with walking, something feels massively wrong still. Have done PT, worn boot, now dealing with peroneal tendinitis. Sigh. Running seems like a distant dream. But you made it…maybe there’s some hope yet. Yay you!!!

    1. Hi Wendy! Thanks for reading. 🙂 There is definitely hope for you!!! It may seem like it’s never going to happen, but you will get back to running. Ankle sprains are the worst. They take FOREVER to heal. I still have tightness in my ankle every so often and it’s been 5 months since I sprained mine. Keep your head up! You’ll get there!

  4. Being normal is like the best compliment ever! Congrats on completing the Strava Challenge (I only made it to 55k) and for completing your highest weekly mileage in six months. I love the pic of you wearing shorts in the snow. Beer and Balance sounds like a fun class. I mean, how can it not be? 😉 Thanks for linking!

  5. Yes for being normal!! ha! You got a lot of mileage in- that’s awesome! And I can’t beleive how much warmer it was up there for you on Saturday- we had crazy bitter cold and wind! I guess the cold hit up first and was moving north.

  6. Congrats on the Strava challenge and your highest mileage in a while! I can’t believe how volatile your weather has been. The weather in Seattle has been extremely weird – 40 degrees while we were skiing the other day and in the high 50s in the lowlands! Too warm for winter!

  7. That snow you mentioned? Yeah we got it yesterday and today. It’s gorgeous but with 40s in the forecast this weekend, it’ll be gone. Yes the weather is bonkers this month! Great workout week and congrats on completing the challenge.
