Last Week’s Workouts

Last week's workouts |

I’m beginning to think that I am cursed in October.

Last year, I had the worst sinus infection of my life.  It was so bad that I was unable to fly to Pennsylvania for a super fun race weekend.

This week, I got hit with another sinus infection.  Not nearly as bad as last year, but it made me unable to workout for most of last week’s workouts.

Thankfully, I’m feeling a ton better and am done with any more sickness.  Being sick sucks!

20 minutes Lateral X Elliptical, 20 minutes Stepmill (alternating 20 steps forward, 20 steps left, 20 steps right)

Upper body and Core strength training

Eccentric pull ups

TRX bicep curls with a squat

Bench press

Cable fly

Single leg balance with shoulder press

KB plank rows

Battle ropes

TRX mountain climbers

Ab wheel

Plank variations

I had a PT visit that day but we only did soft tissue work after my posterior tib tendon flared up and left calf was a ball of knots from my session on Thursday.  We are thinking it was from the incline calf raises. I really thought I would have been able to give running a try early in the week.

30 minutes Arc Trainer, 15 minutes Stepmill ((20 steps forward, 20 steps left, 20 steps right)

Lower body and core strength training

Lunge matrix – front, side, reverse

TRX bridge

Single leg drinking bird with KB

KB swings

Sled pushes

Single leg calf raises

TRX Pike planks

Morning Flow Yoga Class at Bending Bodhi

My alarm went off and I promptly reset it for 30 minutes later.  My throat was killing me and I knew I was coming down with something. 30 minutes of sleep was better than slogging through a workout. I made it through the workday thinking I’d “only” have a sore throat.  It’s never “only” a sore throat.

Beach walk just like last week, aiming for the softer sand to really work my ankle strength and mobility.  I attempted to run a bit but felt more run down from my cold/sinus infection than ankle issues.  Good news!

Physical therapy

Agility drills on the Ladder (why can’t my brain comprehend the more complicated stuff?!?!)

Single leg balance on trampoline with ball catches

15 minutes total on Alter G

1 minute run @ 6.5 mph, 60% bodyweight

30 seconds walk @ 4.0 mph, 100% bodyweight

My foot felt great on the run intervals but I felt like crap from my cold/sinus infection.

Total and complete day of rest in bed.  I thought I was feeling better when I woke up but lasted 15 minutes at work before I knew I should be in bed instead.

Feeling better but still not ready for a workout.  I did about a 30 minute walk with the family downtown to a street festival.

I was feeling 10x better and itching to get out of the house. Despite the chance for rain, we headed out for a hike.  It was humid AF, raining, super windy and fogged in at the summit, but we still had a great time.  My fall foliage loving heart was all aflutter over the reds, oranges and yellows even though we aren’t even close to peak season.  The good news about the no so perfect weather is that the majority of the leaf peepers weren’t clogging the trails.

  1. Glad you are feeling better! The leaves have just barely started to change here, and this weekend was hot and humid on Saturday and then rainy on Sunday. Not ideal for being outside.

    1. When you can’t run…cross training is where it’s at! I’m pretty good at cross training even when I am running, but running will always win.

  2. What an interesting diary! So happy and lucky you are to have such amazing experiences! I admire you so much! After reading your post, I can’t wait to hang out to enjoy the golden Fall here. Thanks so much for sharing with us! Please keep writing and sharing!

  3. Glad to you are feeling better – sinus infections are rough! And woohoo for some running on the Alter-G! The fall colors are beginning to pop here. It’s a slower process and less intense because we have so many evergreen trees, but the colors that are appearing are beautiful!

  4. Boo to sinus infections! I’m amazed at all of the things you do every week to stay active. Your hiking picture looks so foggy. But, I’d love seeing all the fall color. We don’t get it here until around Thanksgiving. I hope this week is a normal one (if there is such a thing!). Thanks for linking!

  5. Battling a cold and an injury? I think you have a lottery win coming your way b/c this bad luck has got to END!!! Glad you were able to at least enjoy the weekend. I thought of you (and all the Rise.Run.Retreat girls!) as I was running in Ogunquit this weekend. It was fantastic!!

  6. Wow, sounds like that sinus infection knocked you to the curb. UGH. You have so much fall color…we have hardly anything changing here (Iowa). I know that will change sooner than I’m ready, though.

  7. Ugh, sorry to hear that you’re sick, that’s no fun. You still fit in a lot of workouts despite that-wow!

Beautiful fall foliage, love the pics 🙂

    thanks for linking up!
