Last Week’s Workouts

Last week's workouts |

Last week’s workouts weren’t really workouts.  We went camping for a few days so workouts were more of just being active outside. Of course, me being me, I also injured myself.  Again. Gah!  Hopefully, this is very, very minor.

30 minutes Lateral X Elliptical

30 minutes strength

Single leg squats

Lateral Squats with Barbell

KB Squat press

Bench Press

TRX Push ups

Bar hangs 3 x 45 sec (pull up prep)

TRX Pike planks

Weight box step ups

30 minute run!  After strictly cross training for 2 weeks, my foot felt well enough to try a run.  It felt good, not 100%, but good.  I was optimistic I was on my way back.

Of course, I had to ruin it all by rolling my ankle later in the day.  By walking to the bathroom.  Seriously. Walking. I was walking to the bathroom near our campsite and my foot rolled off the edge of the pavement. As I was falling to the ground, I heard that horrible sound of ligaments being pulled.  My exact thoughts, “Are you fu@cking kidding me?!?!”

Of course, it was my left ankle, the one that always is injured. There was swelling and no bruising so I knew I didn’t do too much damage. I think I aggravated whatever it is that I hurt two weeks ago. I was able to go hiking the next 2 days.  As of right now, the swelling is mostly down and there’s no pain. I’ve been diligent about stretching it and doing simple balance exercises, in addition to the Nerve Guide exercises.  I’m hoping a run will happen this week.

Hike with the family.  We’ve been seriously slacking on our hiking this summer.  It’s so easy to let other things take priority but I think this hike made us recommit to spending more time on the trails this fall.

Hike with the family where we saw this little fella. I love that I walked right past it and my daughter, who was right behind me causally says, “There’s a snake.” I almost kept walking thinking it was just a small Garter or Grass Snake. But then Ron saw it and said, “Whoa!!!”

Thankful for all the ticks and other gross things snakes help control but I can do without seeing them.  So freakin’ creepy.

20 mile bike ride freezing my butt off.  It’s way too early for it to be in the 50s in the morning.  It’s still August!

  1. Oh the hiking. We didn’t do any that I thought we were this summer either. I need to regroup and realize summer in Texas will never result in hiking :-)

  2. It’s so funny how a 50 degree morning is a normal summer morning here and cold for you! I am sorry to hear about your ankle and hope it feels better this week.
And I would have been back to the campsite in no time if I saw that snake. Just nope. Your daughter is brave!

  3. Hope you heal up quickly! I hate it when I roll my ankle – I have sprained both multiple times :( And that snake is terrifying! I would have totally freaked out!
My week of workouts consisted of mostly running – I rocked a 6 mile run yesterday! :) Have a great day!

  4. Holy cow, what a snake! Is it a rattlesnake? So sorry to hear about your ankle! Sounds like my kind of luck. I’ve been having ankle issues off and on for several years now so I can definitely empathize! Hopefully, you’ll get that run in this week pain-free!

  5. Gah! Both Jared and I hate snakes… so creepy! We’ve been wanting to work in more hiking, too. This fall will be easier when the weather is a bit cooler. Sounds like a fun getaway!

    1. Snakes don’t bother me from afar. Close up…forget it! Less bugs and cooler does help make hiking more fun. I’m excited for what’s to come in the fall.

  6. Looked like such a fun experience and wish I a spectator to learn about that wonderful region, the people and nature. This is in honesty a great blog post! Love it. Great job. :-)
