Last week’s workouts were all about patience.

I saw zero running. I got sick. And I went to a children’s theme park.

So many lessons in patience.

After testing the waters last week Saturday and having my ankle hurt more than before, I decided to take another week off.  Tuesday I saw my chiropractor who gave me major hip and ankle adjustments.  It did the trick because I was feeling 99% better by Thursday.  But then I got sick on Thursday so running, let alone walking, didn’t sound appealing.

Monday

30 minutes Lateral X Elliptical

40 minutes strength

Started working on Nerve Guides per recommendation by my PT.  He told me to give the exercises a try to see if it helped at all.  If not, I should make an appointment with him next week.  Thankfully, he talked me down from my major freak out.  I was certain I had another stress fracture, this time in my medial malleolus.

Tuesday

30 minutes Arc Trainer

30 minutes Bike

Wednesday

30 minutes Lateral X Elliptical

40 minutes strength

I am absolutely loving the new Lateral X Elliptical at my gym.  It’s the first time I’ve ever used one so excuse me if it’s ancient history.  Rather than an forward/backward motion, it’s lateral.  The motion reminds me of skate skiing and is a total glute strengthener.

Thursday

I woke up with a splitting headache, nausea and an upset stomach.  After dropping the kids off at camp, I quickly made my way back home and spent the rest of the morning in bed.  Sleep did the trick because I felt 95% better once I woke up 3 hours later.

The only exercise I got for the day was a 20 minute slow walk with Cooper.  That was more than enough!

Friday

Unplanned rest day

I had to be to work extra early so I skipped the gym in the morning and had zero time for it after work.

I also paid a visit to Jess to work out all the kinks in my body.  It’s funny how my “good” foot actually looked better than my “bad” foot after the massage.  My body is so freakin’ strange.

Saturday

The whole fam took a trip to the pool so I slipped away to do some laps with a kickboard.  No swim cap, no goggles and a two piece suit – I’m such a non swimmer! Lol! I did 550 yards and called it good enough.  My foot felt better than ever after all the kicking. I think it’s a good thing for working on ankle mobility and strength.

Sunday

Is walking around Storyland with my two kids a workout?  A workout in patience for sure.

  1. UGH. When it rains, it pours and going to a children’s park is definitely a practice of patience! 😉 Glad your chiro was able to adjust and help you feel better! I need to go for an adjustment myself today :)

  2. I feel like I’ve had lots of weeks like that this summer- unexpected new pain, taking time off, feeling exhausted, etc. Hope you feel back to normal this week!

  3. I am so lacking in patience and so I feel you…I think I may try going to the pool to do some pool running or kicking–I just did yoga and I feel my ankle mobility has really decreased. I struggled to sit on my bottom in hero’s pose. My feet didn’t want to go flat on the ground. Ugh.

    Hope you are feeling better!

  4. Funny you mentioned how the pool was good for ankle mobility. I felt the same way this week after paddling around and promised myself I’d do more of it. I’ve never heard of a Lateral Elliptical. It looks interesting! I hope your ankle is better soon!

  5. Loved how you talked about patience! This is something I’m still working on – I used to run every.single.day and would feel horrible if I took a rest day. Now I can handle walking for exercise (crosstraining right?!) and be okay with it.

  6. Those lateral elliptical machines are pretty cool! We have a couple of them at our gym. I have used them a few times and it’s a fun change because it does feel like skating. Makes it a little easier to read a magazine than on the traditional elliptical :) Hang in there – it’s always something, right?? Glad that sickness passed quick.
