Last Week’s Workouts

Last week's workouts | happyfitmama.com

Last week’s workouts were a nice mix of trails, roads, gym time, yoga and even a race. Perfect summer running! The bad news is that sunrise is getting later and later (very quickly!) and that the temps in the morning are feeling downright fall like.  It’s scary that I saw a tree starting to turn it’s color already.  I’m hoping that was just a diseased tree and not what’s to come.

I love fall but I’m not ready to give up summer just yet.

Friday

Rest day!

Saturday

50 minute trail run

When given the choice between the road and the trail, I 90% of the time will choose the trail.  The bones in my feet ache the next morning after a road run.  The day after trails?  Nothing. It’s a no brainer which is better for me, right?

I should have done an easy 20-30 minute shake out run because of a race the next day but I was having too much fun on the trails to stop so soon.

Sunday

Six03 Summerfest 10k + 1 mile w/u and 1 mile c/d

The last time I ran this race was 3 years ago.  I was in the midst of marathon training at that time. I haven’t run a 10k since. I was hesitant to sign up for this race for numerous reasons. The biggest is that I have done zero speed work since returning to running in May. Oh, did I mention it’s ridiculously hilly? But I signed up, because, what the hill? Haha. See what I did there? 😉

I actually really surprised myself with how I did.  I was expecting a tank but when comparing my time from 3 years ago, I was only 20 seconds behind.  My splits were mostly better this time around. And I snagged 3rd place in my age group. Who knew?

It’s always fun to catch up with friends at a race too.

Despite not running a 10k in 3 years, I’ll be running Beach to Beacon 10k on Saturday.  Who knew?

Linking up with Hoho for the weekly workout wrap up

  1. You are really an inspiration to many. I like your pic where you are working out in the open. Exercising at such places is something I have still not tried.

  2. Workouts always get succeeded while preformed well and with lots of patience because only that could bring great body results. I use the hgh supplement during my workouts to accomplish the goals. I must say this supplement is too good to strengthen the body and your suggested workouts are the one I should try along such great nutrition. Thanks for the post.

  3. Looks like a great week of workouts! Plus, it’s exactly what I needed to inspire me to recommit to strength training. I’ve totally been slacking in that department and I love seeing what you’re up to at the gym! And yay for the 10K!

    1. I’ve always liked lifting but got side tracked over the years especially working out at home. I still did it but it wasn’t as heavy as I liked. Now I’m loving it again!

    1. Thanks! I rarely run 10k’s anymore. This race was the last 10k I did 3 years ago. But now I’m doing Beach to Beacon and then there’s a trail 10k that I may be doing in 3 weeks. Maybe it’s my new sweet spot? 😉

  4. Congrats on the 10k race and AG award! Your strength training is so consistent and it’s inspiring me to get more regular about the “little” bits of core/hip work that add up. That’s awesome how much trail running you were able to do!

    1. It’s funny that for all the years that I strength trained at home, I felt completely lost during the 2 weeks my gym was closed. I’m really enjoying weights again. It’s like being a kid in a candy shop with all the options. Lol!

  5. Wow! What a fun surprise to be in the same shape as 3 years ago mid marathon training. All those extras are really paying off!

  6. Way to go on your race! 10Ks are so tough for me mentally – I think it’d because it’s not a short race but not a long one either.
I bet the lifting is paying off, I’m trying to be more consistent with strength training, even if it’s just body weight exercises. Any tips?

  7. Your workouts are really very motivating and impressive. I would love to add few of them in my workouts also. Also, I must say, if you want to be fit and attractive, then only your fix routine could lead you the way to fitness. So stay punctual with your workouts always.

  8. Hey, looks like really great workout! Not one of those easy plans you can find on the internet. Definitely will recommend it to my wife!
