Last week’s workouts were all about the count down to Mount Washington Road Race on Saturday. Things were great with a little bump in the road on Thursday because let’s be honest, it’s my signature move to have something stupid happen around a race.


30 minutes Stepmill Intervals

Strength training/core/mobility – One last lift before race day. I hit the weights hard and my legs felt it later that day. Hello, glutes!


34 minute run, 8:33 avg pace

One last workout before Mt. Washington attacking the ascents and recovering on the downhills. With only 30 minutes on the plan (opps I went over!), I didn’t have access to the mega hills in town so I did the best I could with what I had. My legs kind of felt dead (hello taper drama!) but was pleasantly surprised to see multiple PR’s on Strava afterwards. Maybe they weren’t so dead?

And shocking news – it poured the whole run. Go away rain!

It felt weird to go to the gym later than usual and to only do cardio. But I got to sleep in so bonus points for that.


34 minute run, 4 miles

Kyle and I kept it light, easy and conversational for this run. It was hard to stop running when we had so much more to chat about.

Later in the day I headed up to North Conway to go rappelling for the first time. It was a lot of fun (coming from someone who is afraid of heights) but then things went downhill when my backpack with my car keys and wallet were stolen from the van. Btw – North Conway is 1.5 hours from my home. Needless to say, the fun stopped. Gah!


Rest day

Since Thursday was a longer day away from home than anticipated, I used the morning for time to organize and pack for the weekend away.


Mount Washington Road Race

What a day! From the weather forecast that was way off to not meeting my goal time but still being happy with the outcome. More to come on Wednesday about the race up the Rock Pile!

31 minute run, 3.2 miles

My legs were a little sore from the race but not too bad. I took it nice and easy running around Jackson enjoying the covered bridges and rivers before we hit up Storyland.

It’s the thing to do after Mount Washington since we did it 3 years ago too.

  2. What a bummer on the Thursday drama! My first thought (before reading through your post) was that you had a taper snafu (injury-based), so at least THAT wasn’t what happened…but still. Glad to hear the race went well…excited to hear more! Thanks for linking!
