Protein Powder Experiments and Kashi Soft-Baked Squares (Giveaway)

Before I get into the giveaway fun, I want to give you an update on my horrible first attempt at a protein powder cake in the microwave. If you don’t remember, click HERE to see the ugly results. I know you’ve all been wondering if I tried to redeem myself from the kitchen disaster. πŸ™‚

Plant Fusion sent me samples of all their products back in July. I’m just now getting around to trying all the flavors. Chocolate is still my favorite so far for smoothies and recovery drinks but I wanted to test out the other flavors in other ways.

Click HERE for Plant Fusion’s Facebook page. Give ’em a big ol’ LIKE!

I was determined to try again and redeem my microwave explosion. Enter the Gooey Snack Bowl #1.

1/4 c oats, 2 TB PB2, 1 scoop vanilla bean Plant Fusion Protein Powder, 2 TB applesauce, sprinkling of Chia seeds. Mixed all together.

This made a LOT! I couldn’t even finish it I was so stuffed. The vanilla flavor was a little too much for my taste. But I did like eating it as a mushy mess.

Gooey Snack Bowl #2

In the mix: 1/4 c oats, 1/4 c unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 1/4 c water, 1 scoop vanilla bean Plant Fusion Protein Powder, 1 banana and 2 tsp Chia seeds.

This bowl actually was used as recovery fuel after my run on Sunday. I liked this one way better than #1 although I’m still not a huge fan of the vanilla bean. Maybe I’ll try it with chocolate next.

I definitely haven’t found a perfect PP snack yet so stayed tuned to see what else I can make (or explode).

Now on to the GIVEAWAY!

I recently was sent a box of Kashi‘s new Soft-Baked Squares to try as part of the Moms Meet Blogger program.

I’m a fan of Kashi. I love all their cereals and granola bars. What’s not to love? Their products are made from seven whole grains, are natural, minimally processed, and free of highly refined sugars, artificial additives, and preservatives. I like to make a lot of our snacks and treats but I’ve learned that I need to keep some kind of snack in my bag at all times for the kids (and me).Β  Nothing is worse that a melt down from two toddlers and a 30 something year old Mama! Trust me when I say it’s NOT a pretty sight – I can get really mean when I’m hungry. πŸ˜‰

Kashi’s new Soft-Baked Squares aren’t your typical granola bar. They’ve got a hidden little secret. Besides the usual yumminess there is now sweet potato and black beans to up the nutrients. If you know me, I’m not afraid of beans in brownies (click HERE and HERE for my recipes). Throw in a sweet potato? I love it even more!

So what’s the verdict? Too beany? Too “healthy” tasting? NO! These are so, so good.Let’s just say these babies didn’t have a chance in my house. They were all gone within a few days. Even Ron liked them and he is stingy when it comes to “healthy” snacks. Full of chocolate flavor and no hint of beans at all. My only complaint? There were only 5 bars. More please!!

If you’re a fan of Kashi, make sure you are following them on Facebook. Lot’s of great recipes and tips!

  1. I love those Kashi squares! But actually, my favorite snack is either yogurt with granola and craisins, an apple and peanut butter dipped in pretzel crumbs, or just a protein bar!

  2. Now that’s my kind of bowl of oats – love adding PB2 into mine as well as protein powder. And I’ve always liked Kashi. They have some fantastic cereals, bars, crackers. Yum. I guess my favorite snack is greek yogurt with cinnamon, stevia and blueberries.

  3. Hi Angela! hope all is well with you and your kiddos πŸ™‚

My favorite snack is Banana bread made with Vanilla Chobani! YUM

Also, do you have any good recipes for baked goods with sweet potatoes?!! When you put them in your brownies are they cooked and mashed before you add them?

    1. Sorry for the delay! I’ve actually never used sweet potatoes in brownies. The 2 recipes are actually with beans but I know there are recipes with SP out there. I’m assuming they’d be cooked and mashed.;)

  4. I enjoy snacking on trail mix loaded with raw cashews, almonds, walnuts, dried figs, dates, cranberries & blueberries! Thanks!

  5. My favorite snack, post-workout, is a banana and almonds! Sugars, carbs, potassium, protein and healthy fats, all together! Yum πŸ™‚

  6. Hi! I found you off a good friend of mine’s blog, Madeline @FoodFitness&Family. I love following other mommy bloggers and love your blog. I am a mom of 2 and am always looking for healthy snacks that actually taste good so I look forward to trying them.

My favorite snack right now is Dole Real Fruit Bites with Yogurt and Whole Grain Oats. My 2 year old loves them too and they come in convenient 90 calorie pouches that I can grab and go with!

I look forward to reading more of your blog!

  7. I love Kashi, too! I actually just bought their Almond Baked Squares and they are deliscious! But I would love to try the chocolate as well! Who wouldn’t?! My favorite snacks are apples and nut butter or a side of granola πŸ™‚

  8. No way I can choose a favorite snack! I love apple/pb, guac with carrots or tortilla chips!
My twin toddlers also like those squares πŸ™‚

  9. My favorite snack is either marzipan, fresh fruit, and when I’m feeling indulgent, a soft-serv ice cream from McDonald’s (170 cal).

  10. Ik krijg dit soort reacties de hele tijd. # 13 eigenlijk maakte me hardop lachen. Dit is grappig, maar triest. Ik ben eigenaar van een aantal blogs, en op een aantal van de oudere ik heb helemaal opgegeven proberen te matigen.
