July 2013 in Review

Another month down. Seriously, time needs to stop moving so fast. I get sick thinking that it’s only 1 month till September.

My parents arrived last night so I’m just popping in with a quick look back at some of my favorite posts from July. I’ve got really, really GREAT guest posts lined up for you all to enjoy throughout the next week. Please give them lots of love while I’m recharging and relaxing!

Without further ado, let’s take a look back at July.

Backyard Bootcamp

FireCracker Workout - happyfitmama.comI’m all about being outside as much as possible especially during the summer. Why not declare your independence from the gym this summer and take your workouts to the backyard, the park or anywhere. Fresh air is good for the soul. Six no equipment needed workouts to get your heart rate up and your sweat flowing.

Chocolate Coconut Energy Bars

Chocolate Coconut Energy Bars - happyfitmama.comAfter VCM, my mileage dropped as I took a break from running to tend to my foot. Unfortunately, my tummy and mind still wanted to eat like I was training. It was time to get back to “normal” eating and cut back on the treats. I still like my sweets but wanted something with no added sugar (except from the dates) and was full of ooey gooey chocolateness (totally just made up those words BTW). Definitely a winner!

Favorite Run

Ocean Sunrise - happyfitmama.comAmanda came up with the brilliant idea to have a link up party of favorite runs. Of course, being the Pisces that I am, my favorite route is along the seacoast. The views are breathtaking and the salty air is invigorating, even if it’s a headwind in February that makes it feel like you are moving at a snail’s pace. Come along on with me on my favorite run!

Hips Don’t Lie

Core strength test - happyfitmama.com

Shakira has been right all along – the hips definitely don’t lie when it comes to running and injuries. After having a physical therapy evaluation, my foot pain was determined to be from my weak right hip. Who knew? I thought I was doing all the right moves but learned that even the basics are crucial for strength.

A New Running Chapter Begins

Dawning of a new day - happyfitmama.com

Like the dawning of a new day, returning to running after an injury is a fresh start. As I started off on my first “long run” after given clearance to return to running, I started thinking about the past and where I was 2 months ago. I quickly realized you can’t look back if you want to move forward. That was then. This is now. I’m in charge of direction of the story.

My 5 Favorite Running Books

favorite running books - happyfitmama.comI love to read but sadly as life gets busier, book reading is one of the first things that gets pushed to the side. I love to run, love to talk about running so why not read about running?

What was one of your favorite things in July?

  1. I loved July. Loved, loved it! I think the highlight for me was finally realizing that I had acclimated (to some extent) to running in the heat. I can’t lie, though, because I am still anxiously awaiting September. I am also 3 months out of my fall marathon but I still ran more miles this month than I did back in January when I ran a February marathon. Ooops…

  2. All great posts! I look forward to your next month. July for me was …frustrating… but my favourite thing was getting out for some longer runs which made me beyond happy.
Good luck for your trail run!

  3. It really is insane that July is coming to an end. You put up some great mid-summer posts, that’s for sure–great variety.

Enjoy the unplugged time…I’m doing the same next week and can’t wait!
