High Five Friday

Happy high five Friday! It’s the last Friday in February. Is anyone else ready to slap it on it’s ass and say Adios? For such a short month, it sure felt like an eternity.

1. Snowshoe fun. The kids thought it was hilarious to sit on this random bench, covered in snow on our outing.

2. Post run camel pose.

3. I’ve been participating in multiple Instagram yoga challenges this month. My kids have loved getting in on the action. Tadasana with hands in Lotus Mudras for the last day of #bringingyogaback.

4. Ever do a workout and inadvertently make it harder than it’s supposed to? That was me on Tuesday. I misread my plan as doing 800s instead of 400s @ 5k pace. I survived so I guess it’s all good!

5. Sunshine and warm temps….could Spring really be on it’s way?

1. Mother of 5 to be the first to run marathon in high heels – I can’t wear high heels walking without twisting an ankle. All I can say is ouch. But then again, she must know pain since she does have 5 kids.

2. Why women are afraid to run alone – After my creeper incident in November, I have yet to run alone in the early morning. I’m still too freaked out about it. I know I’m not alone. There are plenty of us who have the same situation (or worse). Let’s talk about it. Let’s make it stop.

3. Shalane’s Mission – How can you not love Shalane? She’s a local girl with a heart of gold and the mind of a champion. I’m hoping this is her year.

4. Survival Skills for Extreme Winter Running – Allie says it perfectly. Practice your bird flipping and yelling skills. Here’s to a warm March!

5. Treadmill Running is Just as Good as Road Running – At least this makes me feel better that I’m not wasting my time (and miles) on the treadmill. But I still don’t want to do it more than I have to!

  1. On behalf of english runners, I would like to apologize for the woman in heels. That makes me SO mad! She has never run a marathon before, and there is no way she is gonna complete it!!!! It makes me angry as she does not respect the distance, and if you read her training program……..not gonna happen! I guess all publicity is good publicity…..right?

    As for running alone…..9/10 I run on my own, and I had no idea that was an issue, but yes, lets change that!

  3. Yeah, that high-heeled woman? What kind of insanity is that? Hats off to her.

    Pretty funny on the 800s vs. 400s! Although I will tell you, I swear I can keep a better pace for an 800 than a 400…I just mentally defeat myself with a 400. Wacko, I know.

  4. I am starting to feel extremely guilty that it has not been under 58 this winter– okay, maybe 45 when I start at 5am, but it warms up so fast, you hardly notice. Believe it or not, I used the treadmill the other day, we went to Disneyland and I didn’t want to run in the dark and a new location by myself, so I used the hotel gym. That is the first time I’ve used it since last summer. We have days that are too hot to run, that’s when I hit the dreadmill. Have a wonderful weekend. xo

  5. That article on Shalane was killer. She is so mentally tough and just seems like an all-around cool person. I will definitely be rooting for her on April 20. Way to rock your 800s! Way to push yourself. I recently moved to the mountains so I am less fearful of humans and more fearful of bears and mountain lions so I can only run in the day. This puts a major cramp in my training since I don’t have a treadmill, I have a working husband, and I homeschool our four kids. But, no excuses. . . training for my first marathon this year!

  6. Thanks for including me mama!!! These are some great reads and, as I ready myself to go run the strip in Vegas, I have to admit that I am definitely a little scared to be out there alone…even though it’s morning. Not ok.
    The high heel thing just kills me and I cannot wait to read about the treadmill running! I just love good news when it comes to the ol’ mill 🙂

  7. Thanks for sharing the article on treadmill running! I was just lamenting that I’ll probably have to do another long run inside because of bitter cold/ice/unplowed paths, but at least it still counts!
    I almost always run outside by myself. I’m fortunate that I can do so in the daylight, but even when I’ve had to run in the dark I’ve gone by myself. It makes me so sad that so many women feel unsafe to run alone, it is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed!
