High Five Friday

I love Friday but I think I love it even more during the summer.

Of course, two days off from work is the best part but it also gives me time for a long run, beach time, fun time, down time, family time.

Time to just BE.

Now that deserves a big ol’ High Five Friday!

Are you following me on Instagram? You should!

1. Dude runner was definitely checking out my new Target C9 gear.

2. You can call me Coach Ang now!

3. Family time at the lake. Such a fun day in the sun, relaxing and swimming.

4. Super cute tank and headbands from BIC Bands. Don’t forget you can get 10% off your order with code ANGELABIC at checkout. All BIC Bands purchases this month will help raise funds for Team Challenge for Crohn’s and Colitis.

5. Sunrise run, I love you! All this weekend, Saucony is hosting their latest challenge for the Find Your Strong Project and it’s all about sunrise runs. Snap a pic, share it on Instagram, tag @Saucony and #FYSSunriseRun for a chance to win a prize. You know I will be sharing mine!

Five Things

Peanut Butter & Jelly Popsicles. There’s nothing better to beat the heat of summer than with popsicles. Add peanut butter and “jelly” and it’s a winning combination.

Loon Mountain Race/U.S. Mountain Running Championships – New Hampshire’s own Loon Mountain hosted this championship this year. I know quite a few people who did the race. The photos are amazing – so much grit, determination, spirit and even smiles. Looking at the photos, I had thoughts of “I so want to do this race next year!” to “Well, that looks painful!”

Strides – Do you do strides? I just started incorporating them more into my runs in the past 2 months. A simple technique that can make all the difference on race day.

Why So Many Kids Can’t Sit Still in School Today – Interesting read from a pediatric occupational therapist regarding the increase in ADHD in kids. While I don’t think the lack of movement is the reason for all kids being diagnosed, I definitely think kids don’t move nearly as much as they should. What are your thoughts?

Arm Strengthening Exercises for Runners – An upper body weight workout approved and created by Elite Runner Tina.

What would you like to high five today?

  1. Hey Coach! I definitely love Fridays more in the summer. We are soaking it in over here and loving every minute. Did I tell you how much I love my Bic Bands? I won the $15 GC on your site and I spent double that, I think! I love the wide bands and the prints are awesome.
I’m interested in reading the “lack of movement” with kids and ADHD article. Hmmmm. And that Loon Mountain race? That looks like a MUST!!!!

  2. Congrats on the certification! YES to summer. It really is just such a great time of the year. I miss being near a lake since I grew up on one. Maryland has none (well, no natural ones).

Love strides and always incorporate them. Not doing them yet, though!

Interesting about kids and movement. I do hate that recess times have been slashed…kids can focus so much better with a little movement.

  3. I agree on the ADHD- the movement is not the whole reason, but definitely part of it. There was a really interesting article lately about how the French view it differently and have a much more holistic approach before prescribing meds (diet, lifestyle, family concerns, etc) and because of it, have only diagnosed a fraction of the kids that we do here.

Congrats again on the certification!! And enjoy the long weekend.

  4. Congrats on the coaching certification! That’s quite an accomplishment.

I agree that kids don’t move as much as they should. I’m a teacher, and many times when I walk by the gym when PE classes are being held, they’re sitting on the floor doing paper and pencil assignments. It took some getting used to, but now I allow students in my room to stand, sit on the floor, get up and move around at their discretion, even during instruction time. Their learning certainly hasn’t appeared to suffer from not being chained to their desks!

  5. Congratulations, Coach!!! Those are great links, thanks for sharing! I’ve actually worked a lot with kids with ADHD and that was an interesting article. Kids need to be kids and need to be allowed to be kids and I think that frequently gets forgotten.

  6. I couldn’t sit still in school because – I just didn’t like school and I wanted to be playing outside or doing something I thought was far more productive… Like flirting with boys, LOL!!!!!!!

  7. Congrats on the coaching certification! We called strides “accelerations” in high school, and we did them after almost every practice. Same in college. I’ve fallen out of the habit recently, but it’s definitely something I should start incorporating into my workouts again.

    1. They fill up fast so act quick when one does! You could always contact them to have your area added as a location. That’s how one came to my town.

  8. I’m with you – I always love Fridays but summer Fridays are the best!!! This weekend isn’t quite as relaxing as many but it’s OK because I’m gearing up for a girls trip next week!!!
