High Five Friday

What a week.

It seemed like a it was going to be a good one up until Tuesday afternoon. Cooper was attacked by a dog while we were out for a walk. It came running out of an apartment that we had just passed. I didn’t even hear or see the dog till I felt a tug on Coop’s leash and heard a snarl as the dog plowed over Coop and had him pinned. I don’t even think Cooper knew what happened. Thankfully Cooper is ok. It was so fast and so scary especially when I started to think about the ‘what ifs.’ My kids were also with us riding their bikes. What if the dog had attacked them? What if it had turned on me as I was kicking it to get off Cooper?

Unfortunately, this happened on the community path that we frequent a lot. I don’t think we’ll be using it anytime soon. It’s too bad careless people ruined it for us.

Since then, I’ve been a little scattered brain so today calls for something light and fun. How ’bout a round of currently?

Fish tacos. Ever since both my son and daughter asked for an extra serving of Hake a few weeks ago, I’ve been making it a point to have it on the weekly meal plan. It is quite good. What’s not so good? Heating up the leftovers for lunch at work. I think my coworkers are ready to strangle me with stinking up the place for hours after.

Starbucks Ice Coffee HappyFitMama.com

Starbucks Ice Coffee. I’ve been suckered into their Gold Card Member promotions since Memorial Day. How can you beat buying an ice coffee and getting 2 bonus stars?

Run Faster from the 5K to the Marathon: How to Be Your Own Best Coach by Brad Hudson and Matt Fitzgerald

SO much information! I’ve been bookmarking and taking notes in every chapter. I really love his approach to coaching – Change it up, hit the hills, and LISTEN to your body.

Saucony Guide 7 | HappyFitMama.com

I’ve been loving all of my new Saucony shoes. I was wearing the Guide 6 so I was quite pleased to see not much has changed with the Guide 7. Oh and I can’t wait to share with you which marathon and half marathon Kailey and I will be running for 26Strong! Hopefully we’ll have confirmation soon.

Tomorrow I am volunteering at a Girls On the Run 5K. I’ve been wanting to get involved with this organization for awhile. I’ll be working the activities – Happy Hair, Tattoos, Selfie Station (I’m sure the girls can give me some tips!) and then at the first water stop. My daughter is also coming along to help out. I think she’ll get a kick out of seeing all the girls. Although when I told her about the race she said she was going to run. It should be a fun morning!

Your turn! What are you currently…?

  1. Fun High 5s! Last month I ran a GOTR 5k with the team I coached and it was the most amazing experience. While we ran (and walked alot!) I kept thinking this is the beginning of a lifelong love of running for some of these girls. Love love iced coffee but only at Starbucks.

    1. I still had to deconstruct the fish tacos for the A and L. But I’m happy that they are even open to trying new things!

  2. I was literally JUST thinking how much I want to volunteer at a Girls on the Run race soon. I would love to coach, but work schedules won’t allow it. Boo.
I’m so glad that cooper is ok, that’s really scary.

    1. I’ve thought about coaching too but the schedule thing gets in the way. I guess I’ll volunteer until I can free up time to coach.

  3. I coached GOTR For two years and the benefits go both ways. I miss it so much, but I am currently studying now that I started grad school in the north Georgia mountains. Running is treacherous here between the hills and humidity!

  4. What a scary situation with Cooper. I wish people would be responsible with their dogs and not let them roam around unattended.
I am currently looking forward to a brewfest that my husband & I will be attending with friends tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Hey there! I found your blog from Angela this morning. I love it. Mostly because you are a gold member of Starbucks (mad respect) and you run in Saucony’s! LOVE IT.

    Have a happy weekend!

    1. Ironically, I just got an email from Sbux that I earned 10 bonus stars from their recent promotion. They’ve got me hook, line and sinker!

    1. I did report it to the police but sadly, I don’t think anything will come of it. The dog was being “watched” by the person that lives in the apartment and it’s owner is from another town.

BTW – I hope your hubs did read your post. Oy!

  6. Have fun tomorrow with GOTR!! I’m so sorry that that happened to you and Cooper. It IS scary. They have off leash hours in the part by my house. One morning I was walking with J when he was maybe 1.5 or 2 and a dog came running up to him and knocked him over. Luckily nothing happened but it freaked me out and then pissed me off because the owner didn’t even notice or say anything! Oy! Fish tacos looks delicious too. Have a great weekend!

    1. Irresponsible pet owners piss me off. This dog didn’t even belong at the apartment but the person “watching” it obviously was clueless.

  7. Oh, no!!! So horrible about the dog attacking Cooper – glad that y’all are all OK!!!
I’m high-fiving Hunter because tomorrow will be the payoff for all of his hard work and training – his first half marathon!

  8. Fish tacos rock! I’m currently reading about 5 different books. Thankfully we’re leaving for vacation today, so I should be able to finish at least one, if not more ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. So sorry about the dog attack. Glad everyone was ok in the end, but I understand how that would shake you up and scare you off that path. We had a “rule” at work that you are not allowed to re-heat fish in the microwave, but now we have a cafeteria that cooks fish for lunch in the morning, so I’m not sure if the microwave ban is still in place!

  10. I haven’t been on a run in forever. Ok so I did a 3km run on Saturday, but it made me utterly exhausted. Thanks tonsillitis.
I have a trail half marathon at the end of the month, I haven’t trained for it thanks to being sick twice in 2 months.
I have run faster on my list of books. That copy looks well loved.

  11. That is so scary having a dog come and pounce…good grief! I had that happen to me one day when I was running, a dog came and took a hold of my arm, luckily he didn’t bite he just kept tugging left quite the bruise though. It aggravates me folks don’t take care to keep their dogs under control. The book looks like you have enjoyed it… a little broken in w/love ๐Ÿ™‚
