High Five Friday

High Five Friday October 6 2017 happyfitmama.com

Before we jump into High Five Friday, I wanted to address what happened in Vegas last Sunday night. I know you came here to read about running and fitness related stuff. And, believe me, I would love to rather just talk about that stuff.  But I can’t stand by and not address the elephant in the room.

The shooting in Vegas has been at the front of my mind all week.  Another senseless act. I’m beyond pissed that mass shootings still go on after all these years.  And they will keep happening, with more dead mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and friends. Thoughts and prayers aren’t cutting it.  We need action to prevent another event.  I’m not an expert on gun laws or guns for that matter but I do know that it’s not right that mass shootings keep happening.  And more lenient gun laws are not the answer.  Now is the time to make changes so we aren’t talking about the next largest mass shooting in the United States anytime soon.

There’s no easy way to transition to High Five Friday, so let’s get into it.

5 from Instagram –  I share more pics on Instagram and Instagram Stories.  Are you following me?   Please do!

1 ) Sunrise runs…hopefully in my future soon.

2 ) A moment of zen.

3 ) Fall colors on a walk with Cooper on the trails.

4 ) That sunrise tho.

5 ) Sun beams and fresh air to clear the chatter.

5 Good Reads

1 ) Starting from Scratch – The body achieves what the mind believes.  Think you can’t run 1 mile, 5 miles, 10 miles, 20 miles, 30 or even 100 miles?  Think again. You’ve got to start some place.

2 ) It’s Going to Be Ok – It’s hard to see the good in all the horrible things that are happening in the world right now.  This post from Beth shows that there will ALWAYS be good.  The point is to be the good every single day.

3 ) Kelly Herron – Chicago Marathon Training Update – We all know Kelly from her mid run assault and her famous “Not today Mother F@cker!” I got teary eyed reading about how her mom stepped in to train with her for her first marathon in Chicago this weekend. Moms are the best!

4 ) How the Leadville 100 Saved a Struggling Mining Town – Further proof that running is way more than running.  Lol.  I love this story of taking a chance and how the running community is making this town prosperous once again.

5 ) Women! Please Cut the Sh*t and Support Each Other – Allie once again, raises me up.  Why is it so hard for women to support women?  Why is it always a competition?

What would you like to High 5 today?

  1. Damn right!!! I couldn’t agree with you more about taking action with gun laws and also not losing sight of all the good and love – which far outweighs the bad and the hate…but still, laws need to change for real change to happen!!
    *steps off soapbox*
Thank you so much for including my article. The more women who read it – the better!

  2. Ugh Vegas…I just can’t wrap my head around it. I’ve been losing sleep all week. Still having a hard time even reading articles/watching the news about it. So senseless.

  3. Well said. The events in Las Vegas have been on my mind all week – I can’t believe these horrific tragedies have almost become normal now…I feel like no one is talking about it. 🙁
Love the article about women supporting women!
Hope you have a great weekend 🙂

  4. I cried a lot this week over Las Vegas. The laws need to change now – they’ve needed to change for a long long time. Honestly, I feel disillusioned with our lawmakers… gun laws should have changed when Sandy Hook happened or well before. Goodness, back when I lived in Indiana it seemed like the sale of alcohol or cold medication was more regulated…
    Have a great weekend!

  5. Thank you for you voicing your opinion on doing something after what happened last week. I couldn’t agree more and need to find out more ways to support stronger gun control. To me, it’s the only answer.
