High Five Friday

High Five Friday June 10 2016 happyfitmama.comHigh Five Friday is here!

Want to get in on spreading good news? Find all the details HERE. It’s up to you what you want to High Five. All I ask is that you have fun with it and share good things from your week.

And on that note…I’m kind of freaking out right now. I rolled my ankle running down Gunstock yesterday morning. The maintenance road is nothing but rocks that are quite treacherous to run over. I had a great run up to the summit and was feeling great. Of course, as my crappy luck would have it, I was within eyesight of the bottom of the road when I rolled my ankle over a rock. It all happened so fast. I’m not sure if I heard a snap or not. What I do know is that it hurt. A lot. I got up hoping that I had just rolled it and could walk it off. It did get a little better with each step but it wasn’t going away like a little ankle roll usually does. Shit.

On the drive home, my foot was throbbing so I popped some Advil that I had in the car. I’ve been doing the whole R.I.C.E thing ever since. What has me freaking out the most is that the most painful part is where the Posterior Tib Tendon is. And of course, it’s on my left foot because everything bad must happen to that foot.  And Mt. Washington is 8 days away. GAH.

Anyone have an awesome – I rolled my ankle but ran a race with no problem 8 days later stories? You can totally lie just to make me feel better.

She’s going the distance…That song always pops up in my head while out for a run. It’s always a favorite.

Sunrise love.

Mad about plaid in a forward fold. I can’t get enough of Saucony’s new My Life on the Run line for fall. It almost makes me wish for fall to get here. Not really. I want summer to last forever!

Saucony

Bluebird sky kind of morning that makes you feel like you can fly.

The smell of the sea and beach roses – nothing better!

5 Things

100 Reasons to Love National Parks – I don’t think anyone needs 100 but here’s some ideas to get lost, lose the crowds and have fun this summer in nature.

Embracing the Quiet Season – In the blogging world, summer is when traffic slows way down. It’s kind of frightening to see your stats sink but use this time to update things you’ve been meaning to do – on the blog or in your life. And it’s summer – go have some fun!

Some Days, You Just Have Nothing – Not everyday is a ‘knock it out of the park’ kind of day. If it was, why would we get excited and energized by those days?

Take Back Your Life: Stop worrying. Start Enjoying – Wise words from Tina. It’s easier said than done BUT it can be done. “And the more control you try to put on your life, the more it rebels and shows you that you are NOT in control.”

Essential Life Lessons Learned from Running – Further proof that running is way more than just running.

  1. That stinks! I did roll my ankle and ran a 25k 3 weeks later, but instead of RICE I got moving 48 hrs later and used a ton of Kelley Starrett’s flossing and distraction with compression wrapping and bands to keep the swelling at bay. I trained around it and did not run for 10 days. It has been 4 weeks and I still need to tape it to run, but that works great. Hoping you have a speedy recovery!

  2. Totally reading that article about slow blogging season. I have big plans for my blog and I am definitely going to take the time this summer to work on them! 🙂

  3. Noooo not your ankle!! I’m praying and crossing my fingers and sending all the good vibes that it’s not a sprain or shifted bone because those suck. I’m sure 8 days off will be enough time to heal it up without losing any fitness, and then you’ll just be extra rested and crush it at Mt. Washington.
If I had rested my sprain right after it happened I would have been better in a week, not a month… but my husband sprained his ankle about a month ago, RICED for a week, and was back to running with no problems 7 or 8 days later!
I hope your ankle feels better and you have a wonderful weekend, Angela!

  5. First of all, thanks for hosting the link-up!! It’s fun and I believe my first time joining. 🙂 And yes! I actually have rolled my ankle close to a race and came out totally fine. True story. RICE that bad boy. I’m the opposite, I’m always rolling my right side. I thiiiink my right leg is longer so it works harder…dunno. Just a weird theory. Ha! I love Instagram! Following you! And I read Tina’s post. I really enjoy her podcasts. Inspiring AND practical. Have a super weekend. 🙂
