Healthy Living Summit 2012

Hi friends! I survived the weekend in one piece. Being away from the kids and Ron wasn’t as horrible as I thought it would be. I missed ’em terribly but I had lots to keep my mind busy at the Healthy  Living Summit. I’ve been thinking about everything that I learned and observed over the weekend every since we left the hotel. My head is still swimming. I think the biggest thing that I took out of it all was “Where do I want to take Happy Fit Mama?” There’s lots of options but I want to stay true to being ME. I’m still processing things so it is definitely a work in progress.

So where do I begin? Let’s start off with my procrastination in packing. Cheryl and I had planned to leave around 2 pm. I thought that gave me plenty of time to pack. Too bad I didn’t really start until 11 a.m. Then it was a panic. I brought WAY too much.

The trip down to Cambridge was great until we started following the Google maps directions. After circling MIT for at least 30 minutes, we finally made it to the Hyatt. Gah! We later learned from the front desk staff that Google maps is off in their directions. Lesson definitely learned!

We checked in right away and picked up our swag bags. Check out all the goodies!

And the best swag of all:

Reebok RealFlex shoes! The pair on the left is the original pair I got. However, a size 8 was too big so I thankfully was able to exchange them for a 7.5. I liked the gray but I really, really love the pink and green. So cute and extremely comfortable! I must admit that I have not bought anything Reebok in a long time (middle school, maybe?). But their new line is fantastic! I’m really digging the bright colors and cute strappy tanks. I see this tank in my future. Thank you so much Reebok!

After pouring over our bags we got ourselves all pretty for the cocktail party. We snacked, sipped wine and mingled for a couple of hours. I met some great bloggers including Stephanie.

Of course, we had to have some fun in the photo booth too.

Clearly, I love photo booths and props. 😉 Oh boy…

Saturday morning I ventured out for a easy 3 mile run with a lovely group of ladies along the Charles.

Dani, Rachael, Min, me, Danielle, and Phyllis

Rachael was actually my Foodie PenPal last month. It was great to meet her in person! My knee felt great during the run and I stuck to my promise of not going over 3 miles. Oh wait! Have I filled you all in on my knee situation? That will have to happen tomorrow. Stay tuned…

Anyway, back to Saturday at HLS. The day was packed full of food, speakers, and a CrossFit workout.

The workout put on by Reebok, CrossFit One and CrossFit New England was fantastic! Hands down that was the biggest highlight for me. After their workout, Cheryl and I picked the brains of 2 of the trainers. We talked about body mechanics and Paleo mostly. Don’t worry, I’m not going Paleo anytime soon! I mean I love almond butter and sweet potatoes but my options as an almost vegetarian are pretty slim on Paleo. 😉 I may be looking into my local CrossFit Box very soon.

The speakers on the panels and sessions did a great job. I’m going to start implementing some of their tips very soon. Like I said before, my head is still swimming from all the information! I’ll share my notes in the next couple of weeks.

Another highlight? Getting to meet the fabulous FitFluential CEO, Kelly Olexa! Blogger fail – no picture! 🙂 Trust me when I say she is just as great in person as on her vlogs and writing.

Before I forget, I have to give a big THANK YOU to the wonderful ladies from the Portsmouth lululemon store. They graciously gave me this awesome tee to where to HLS.

Isn’t the back cute??!!! LOVE! It is so comfortable, too. Thank you so much ladies!

I’m so glad I had Cheryl with me to “hold my hand” during the weekend. We are both fairly new bloggers who didn’t know anyone else going into HLS. I would have never made it without her. Thanks so much roomie! 😉

It was an interesting weekend to say the least. I was disappointed by a few things. However, it was just a reminder that I need to be ME in real life and on my blog. I’m sure I’m forgetting something that I absolutely had to recap but I’m drained. Don’t be surprised to see random thoughts from the weekend popping up in posts for the next month. 🙂

Have a great Monday everyone!

  1. Love that pic of the three of us! You two seriously saved me that night 🙂 I have very similar thoughts about HLS… I loved it over all but there were definitely some things that made me a little bit disappointed, and that certainly highlighted the difference between myself and a lot of other bloggers there. I guess that’s what makes the blogging world so great though, is that we Are so different, so there’s something out there for everyone!

  2. Thanks for your honest review! I’m wondering if I’ll have similar mixed feelings after Fitbloggin… might have to chat with you more about this sometime. Great takeaway- to always make sure you’re true to yourself! Glad you had a good time and didn’t worry about the kids. Welcome back!

  3. That sounds like a great time! Looks like you all made out like bandits, also. I’m sure it was an overwhelming amount of info to take in and process. Looking forward to what else you have to share about it moving forward.

    Glad the knee held out!!

  4. I’m glad you had a great time! It didn’t even click that I knew who you were when you were trading shoes out until now – I’m glad you liked the pink ones better. And I’d love to discuss with you what you didn’t feel was right about the weekend, we work really hard to try to improve every year and constructive feedback is always a good thing. 5. Aren’t the RealFlex’s the best? I love ’em!
I hope you still had a positive experience overall with the weekend. I love how you said “it was just a reminder that I need to be ME in real life and on my blog” – so, so true! 🙂

  6. Great recap [and that Lulu shirt is ADORABLE! Such a unique cut and color!!]

I wish I would have found more time to chat with you and Cheryl! I think I saw you both for about 7 seconds when I was running from one errand to the next. I’ve already been making notes for things for next year and being more prepared ahead of time in order to spend time REALLY TALKING to the attendees is high on the list – I’d love if you would email me your thoughts/suggestions/opinions!!

  7. Google has decided that its users of their well-liked Google Maps service will begin becoming charged a fee for utilizing their service. Websites that are going embedding a Google Map of their location will be charged a fee for usage. This new Google Maps fee is going to hit mostly the bigger companies, particularly the Travel industry. I suspect that certain websites that are the heaviest users would be websites like TripAdvisor and Expedia.;.
