Fun Facts Friday + Giveaway!

It’s here finally, Friday! Since my mind can’t seem to focus on one subject right now, let’s do a Fun Facts Friday!

Fun Facts Friday -

Fact #1 – Google Reader is shutting down in July. If you read a lot of blogs like I do, it’s nice to have a centrally located site to organize all of them.Β  Katy Widrick did a great post on the some of the alternatives. I’ve been playing around with Bloglovin’ and Feedly (two of the most talked about alternatives). I’m still on the fence but so far I’m liking Feedly more. It’s a little bit more visually appealing. You could always subscribe to get my posts by email (see the side bar to sign up) – just saying! Does anyone else have recommendations?

Fact #2 – I’m sick of the treadmill.

work it! -

The lovely winter storm on Tuesday left over a foot of fresh snow for us which means lots of icy sidewalks and roads. Plus, it’s just so stinkin’ dark at 4:30 a.m. that I haven’t had the balls to run outside by myself. I really need to find another running buddy asap! My week day mileage is creeping up. Gone are the days of 5 or 6 miles. Now it’s 7 or 8. The longest I’ve ever run on the treadmill was 7 miles and it is painfully boring. In the past, all I’ve needed was a great Pandora station to get me through it. This week I started watching shows On Demand. It’s helped but I don’t want to have to do 8 miles. I can’t. I won’t. Maybe I can switch to running in the evening but I’m usually not at my best then. I’m ready for bed!

Fact #3 – If all 600 muscles in your body pulled in the same direction, you could lift 25 tons. Pretty cool, huh?

Fact #4 – Has anyone returned their Lululemon see through pants? I’m still wearing mine – hope no one was offended in class Wednesday night. πŸ˜‰

Fact #5 – I’m a bag lady. It seems like I am always carrying at least two big bags of gear around with me. On days that I go into work and bring the kids to daycare, it’s really bad. I’ve got my purse (which is really like a suitcase), their bag full of snow pants, boots, and other winter gear, my lunch bag and my gym bag. It’s no wonder I don’t have a dislocated shoulder.

Thankfully, I recently won an Active Accessories On-The-Go Accessory Pouch from The Tackle The Miles Virtual Race (part of the 13 in 2013 virtual race series put on by Jill and Jen).

Active Accesories Pouch -

On days when I don’t need my whole purse, I’ve been using the On-The-Go Pouch for stashing some cash, my driver’s license, a credit card and lip balm and throwing it in my gym bag. It’s saved my shoulders from lugging one more big bag around.

Gym Bag Active Accessories -

The nice people at Active Accessories offered to give one lucky Happy Fit Mama reader their own On-The-Go Accessory Pouch!

  1. HATE the treadmill! I have been running on one this past week to and it sux, yesterday I ran in the snow rather than getting on the treadmill. The most I ever ran on the treadmill was 11 miles while training for a half when the roads were ice…it pretty much sucked and vowed never to do it again. Good luck on finding a buddy! Thanks for a great giveaway…..I carry at least three bags-my nursing bag, gym bag and pocket book…way too many!

  2. Yeah especially after this morning’s 6 inches I am all done….DONE!! I’m a bag lady as I go to school each morning! I have a huge LLBean bag(such a teacher bag!) and a lunch box every day! On the mornings I go to the gym, I have that with me too!

  3. I usually carry at least three bags. My purse (which is giant), a diaper bag (also giant), and either my work or gym bag (also giant). My husband laughs at the sheer number of bags piled by the door on any given day!

  4. Right now I only carry my purse, but I’m having twins any day so that will be changing very soon!

  5. I am pretty good about just having one bag these days…unless I’m going to a race where the temperature is iffy. Then I bring in just about every item of clothing I own and yes, that requires multiple bags!

  6. The back of my Murano has 6 bags in it. Three are my son’s and three belong to me. I have a bike bag which include bike shoes, helmet, gloves, windbreaker and hand towel. I have a running bag which has socks, my Newton Running Shoes (2 pairs), earbuds, gloves, jacket, arm warmers, mace and arm band. I have a swim bag which has a large and small towel, extra swimsuit, items for showering, 2 swim caps and 2 sets of goggles. My six year old son’s bags are for TaeKwonDo, Soccer and Baseball. We stay fairly busy!

  7. I usually only carry one but I’m always interchanging between 3. My regular purse, my “converted to a bag” camelback and my backpack for the swim days.

  8. First of all, I too hate the dreadmill. lol Terrible contraption but when it must be used, it must be used.

Second, I’d use that pouch EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. I so badly want one now… holy awesome!

  9. I’d rather lug a one big bag than many small ones. So it’s one BIG bag for me, there may be teeny ones lurking inside. =)

  10. I just carry one bag (helps when your kids are older!).
    Fact #3 is pretty cool!!!
Oh, and the picture on the side of you in a yoga pose (I don’t know the name of it) is awesome – pretty sure I would seriously hurt myself if I tried that!!

  11. I only have 1 bag and that’s a diaper bag. If we’re just going out for a quick trip I don’t even take it. Most of the time I stuff my DL, Debit Card & Phone into the inner pocket of my jacket. If it’s warm it goes into my back pocket.

  12. Ohhh I’ve been a bag lady, too. ESpecially when I was commuting–that was bad! WHat a cute little clutch this is πŸ™‚ Cool giveaway.

On fact #1: I was so bummed about the Google Reader news, but have started using Feedly and I, too, have been liking it. It is very visually appealing, as you say.

    LOVE Fact #3. πŸ˜€

  13. I carry 4 bags everyday: gym bag, purse, lunch bag and a bag with 4 water bottles because the water at my office is terrible. But to make it better, on Wednesday I get to swim after work, so I have another bag with swim suit and shower stuff, and a final bag with my supper before swimming, making it a total of 6 bags on that day. I do get harrassed by my coworkers πŸ™‚

  14. 3-4 bags is typical for me – gym bag, purse, lunch, and backpack for law school books ( heavy!). It turns my commute into a workout of its own!

  15. On school days, I carry between 1-4 bags. Ad, it’s only one bag because I put my purse and lunch bag into my backpack! On the weekends, if I go anywhere (the gym) it’s 2 bags and if its grocery shopping, then only 1.

  16. I work really hard to limit how many bags I carry…so its typically three or less πŸ™

  17. I tweeted too!!!!!! πŸ™‚

oh…and completely agree about the treadmill. And now there is yet ANOTHER snowfall tomorrow. Ugh!

  18. I read Katy’s post the other day and probably need to check out feedly. I really like Bloglovin’, so we’ll see.

I have been missing my treadmill lately (we sold it last year). The weather’s been so awful outside, it would really useful. Despite the fact that I never loved it, I always got good and sweaty!

  19. Lunch bag, kid’s bags, breast pump, purse, and speech therapy materials on days I have a home visit. That’s 6. Really, can anyone beat that!?!

  20. Geez, I carry way too many bags to and from work each day…I just have to have all of my stuff *just in case*! πŸ™‚ This bag would be awesome for going to the gym though, and for when I meet up friends for walks outside–when I only need a few small things but too many things to just hold!

  21. There are many large towels to choose from. Nevertheless quality and absorbency should be on the list for thing to consider. It should be made from pure cotton and has a very soft velour finish that is awfully soothing to the epidermis. The colors will remain vibrant and softer after repeated washings. Durability is one of the important factors as well. It is determined as a result of its features and cotton content. What is more amazing is a price that is budget-friendly. Smaller ones are obviously affordable in comparison to the large ones. Nevertheless, since you may a vacation so it is relevant that you feel at ease and relax with ones beach towels.-
