Friday Favorites

It’s Friday Baby!  Woot woot!  Does anyone have a three day weekend?  I actually do because my kids daycare is closed on Monday so I HAD to take the day off.   I really hate taking time off work(insert sarcasm here).  So in celebration of it being Friday and a long weekend, here are a few of my favorite things right now:

Mile Markers: The 26.2 Most Important Reasons Why Women Run by Kristin Armstrong

Awesome book that is so motivating!  I love her stories from her daily running life.  This is a great book for women runners to feel the “sisterhood” running brings but also for women in general.  After reading this book, I decided to finally say that 2012 is the year of the marathon for me.  She inspired me to not only run for myself but for my family.  Running makes me a better Mama. The book has also motivated me to find at least one running buddy.  I would love to have someone in my neighborhood whom I could have a standing “date” to run with every Saturday or Sunday.

Mizuno Alchemy 11

I know I’ve said I’m a Brooks kind of girl but I’ve cheated.  I just bought a pair of Mizuno Alchemy 11’s last night.  I haven’t actually ran in them yet but I loved how they felt as soon as I put them on.  It felt like I didn’t even have a shoe on.  I stopped at Runner’s Alley yesterday to see what they would suggest for a new shoe for me.  I’ve been fitted before but this was the first time I’ve been told that I need A LOT of support.  I also lucked out because the Mizuno rep was in the store last night.  She might have helped sway my decision a little!  I can not stress the importance of getting properly fitted for a running shoe.  I know your not supposed to pink a shoe based on its looks but I was attracted to all of the cute print/color Mizunos and Brooks.  So pretty!  But alas, they were not an option for my horrible overpronation.  Boo!  I think I might have to get pink laces to spice it up a little.  I’m excited to try ’em out this weekend.

The Multi-Shot 16 function on my camera

I just realized I had this function on my camera.  So fun!  Cooper’s face cracks me up.  He is a natural model don’t you think?  I love when he gives me the look of “Really?  Pictures?  Where’s the cookies?”

Love everything on this site!  I don’t currently own anything from it but plan to in the near future.  It reminds me of J. Crew.  I had a serious Crew problem a few years ago when I wore ‘business casual’ to work.  Like a $400/month problem!  Now that I wear scrubs to work my Crew addiction is in check.  I still drool over everything in the store.  Thankfully, there is an outlet very near me so I don’t have to pay as much!

Blood Oranges

I just tried my first Blood Orange last week.  I never wanted to try them because of the name.  Couldn’t it be called Deep Red Orange?   I had bought a couple because I wanted to make this recipe.  It tasted good in the glaze so I tried one by itself.  So good!  It’s like eating a Sour Patch Kid.  I can’t wait to pick up more this weekend.

Heart Healthy Tip

Limit your sodium intake to less than 2,300 mg a day.  If you have heart disease, the limit is 1,500 mg.  Have you ever tracked your sodium intake?  Even if you don’t add salt to anything, you may still find you are close to or over the recommended limits.  Limiting  your intake of packaged and processed foods is a good place to start in reducing your sodium intake.

What are your favorite things right now?

Have you ever not tried a food just because of its name?

  1. I really need to read Kristin’s book… I’ve heard so many good things about it! Mmm, that bread recipe looks awesome too. I like her blog. Can’t say if I’ve ever had blood oranges either, might need to pick some up!
