Friday Favorites

Happy FriYAY everyone!

I’m mixing it up slightly from the usual High Five Friday theme and going with Friday favorites instead.  It’s what I’ve been reading, listening to and buying.

Enjoy!

Marathon weekend is here!  I didn’t have the Boston Marathon I wanted three years ago but I did have an absolutely fantastic time the weekend before Marathon Monday.  The city is truly electric and the vibe is contagious.  Part of the highlights of the weekend were meeting long time blogging/social media friends in person for the first time.  A close second was meeting Scott Jurek.  He was so nice even though I was a big dork and told him we were practically related because I went to school in his hometown and one of my professors is a friend of his.  #sodorky If you are headed to Boston, enjoy every single minute of the celebration!

8 Important Stress-Relieving Stretches for Parents

Just a little self promotion for my latest article on ActiveKids.com. 🙂 Parenting is stressful. #truth  When you feel your shoulders start to creep up to your ears, stop, drop and stretch anytime, any place.

Early this week, I ran (hahaha, see what I did there?) into Runner’s Alley to use up a gift card I had.  I bought a shirt but realized when I got home it was too big.  When I went back to exchange it, I ended up leaving with a super cute Lucy tank (I think the brand is now part of The North Face?), my first pair of Balega socks (affiliate link), and a Trigger Pin.  I’ve been meaning to get a Trigger Pin for years after having practically every friend rav about it.  I’m so glad I finally pulled the trigger (hahaha…another one!).  Plus, it’s a New Hampshire based company.  Love that!

Sending a runner into a running store is like going into Target…you always come out with more than you planned!

Quit the Cattiness and Strive to Empower

If you haven’t checked out Trail Sisters yet, you really should.  The articles are top notch and correlate to any female runner no matter if you run trails or not. Even though the author specifically rights about trail running, the cattiness is evident in road running just as much.

In the past week, I’ve had multiple people bring up Huey Lewis and The News.  For all of you who weren’t born until the ’90s, click on the Huey link to hear their music.  Lol. Here’s a creepy fact about me: I had a crush on Huey Lewis when I was 10.  So weird especially since he was probably 50 when I was 10.  Since he was mentioned so much, I felt the need to listen to some of his songs.  And now I’m stuck in the ’80s and loving it (Van Halen with David Lee Roth was so much better than with Sammy Hagar).  Is it sad that I’m listening to it at home (like right now) and while I’m working out?  So many good songs!  Next thing you know, I’ll be saying they don’t make songs like that anymore.  #WhatAnOldPersonSays

Can a Woman Finish Barkley?

A woman has not finished a Barkley Marathons…yet.  This year was dubbed the year of the woman because there were some serious contenders.  None of them finished but I think it just fanned the flames.  There will be a finisher who is a woman.  Maybe not next year or the year after.  But it will happen.

What are you loving this week?

  2. Ahh, I used to run and bike by Huey Lewis’ house when I lived in CA… the first year I really started running (& trail running)! Actually I almost got run off the road by a deer into his property once. And don’t feel creepy, I had the same crush on Paul McCartney when I was 11!

  3. My coach and I were just talking about music–I was saying that I wasn’t a fan of the 80s music but I do love the 70s and 90s!
