August 2013 in Review

Another month gone by! How is it that there are only 4 months left in 2013? Yowza! Better get on those goals for the year.

It’s time again to look back at the month and highlight my favorite posts. I have to say yesterday was probably one of the biggest highlights of my month. I was the featured Follow this Mother! on Another Mother Runner.

anothermotherrunner.PNGLove Dimity, Sarah and the AMR tribe! The way it all came about is kind of fun. I’m not sure how exactly, but I stumbled upon the blog Michigan Runner Girl. I love Heather’s recaps of races, places and general love of running from my home state. Her blog is also the first I ever heard of a trail marathon I’m trying to convince my brother to do with me next year.Β  Just writing about the familiar places takes me home. I’m kicking myself for not being into running while I lived there. Anyway, we connected at some point and it turns out she writes for AMR. Big thanks to all of the AMR ladies for having me! It’s an honor. And also HELLO to all those who are new readers!

In other news –

It’s a long Holiday weekend – any plans? I’ve got a 10 mile race tomorrow. Should be a gorgeous day for a race around a lake. Not sure how much I’ll be “racing” since my foot is still being a bugger (more on that at some point) and my daughter has decided to spread her cold germs to me. But I’ll see what I can do. Other than that, it’s time to relax and soak up the last bit of summer. Brings a tear to my eye just saying that!

This was also the first race that I ran “naked.” I really love trail running and hope to do more of it in the future. Now if I can only coordinate a time with others to get out there!

  1. I can’t believe another month is over. For me it’s Whole30 being over. I’ve learned loads, and it was a really fantastic experience. (besides getting food poisoning though).
    This weekend I plan on getting a run in, new pb maybe, we’ll see, and lots of gardening, and glorious weather, I’m looking forward to that.

  2. August has been busy!

    A trip to Michigan to see friends
    We went to see Planes
    We went bowling
    The big kids started school last week, so supply and shoe and new clothes shopping
    I ran a 10k
    75% done with my half marathon training
    And I did NOT plan the babies 1st birthday party next week. Yeah, regretting that decision.

    This weekend we are heading to Indiana to see friends.

    1. We saw Planes this month too! It was my kids first movie in the theater and they absolutely LOVED it. So fun to see their little faces in wonder. Sounds like you had a great/busy month!

    1. I really want to get into trails more but it’s difficult to find others to run with. I just don’t feel comfortable running alone in the woods. Hope you get a chance to hit the trails. So fun!

  3. Oh bummer on your foot! I have a 5k Monday and I’m not sure how much to push it either… it doesn’t seem real smart as I’m starting to feel fatigued with marathon training. But either way, it should be fun. Enjoy the weekend! Oh- and I missed the feature yesterday, heading over the check it out!

    1. Thanks! I’m still not sure how it’s going to go. I definitely don’t think I’m at a PR level right now especially with a cold and my foot not being 100%. But you never know what can happen on race day.

  4. Hey! Just found your blog after you were featured in AMR…your energy is so inspiring! Wish I had your energy in the wee morning hours. I’m a fan of the snooze button, myself. Anyway, I was wondering–what’s the cloth-looking bracelet that you have around your wrist in several of your racing pics? Is it like a sweat band? A snot rag? A lucky charm? Just curious. Lol. Good luck on your 10-miler!

    1. My foot saga is a long story. Nothing severe that I can’t run but just irritating. I’m still working with my PT so we’ve got new exercises worked into the rotation.

  6. Yes, August was a speedy month. With our family birthdays and all the holidays coming up the fall goes by so quickly for us and before I know it the year will be over.

    The spinach burgers look good! Now I’ll have to try them out and see if my littles will eat them. πŸ™‚
