After Hurricane #Sandy

Hi all! Hurricane Sandy, Frankenstorm, The Storm of the Century, The Perfect Storm – It’s all gone. We thankfully only lost power for a couple of hours and no trees fell on our house. Even though we have a generator, it’s not the same. Plus, the noise alone from everyone in your neighborhood running one is enough to drive you mad. My thoughts are with those who were hit the hardest.

Happy Halloween!

Aren’t my little Pumpkins cute? We are having a little Halloween party at work for all the patients. Thanks to Pinterest, I found the idea to make clementines into jack-o-lanterns. The instructions said all you needed was a sharpie. Of course it couldn’t be that simple! Those little faces are actually painted on. I hope all my patients appreciate the work that went into those darling clementines!

Ron was home from work yesterday so I was able to get in a run outside. I waited till it was light out so I wouldn’t roll an ankle on debris or get zapped by a down power line. The run turned into more of an obstacle course race. I had to hurdle sticks. I crawled over trees. It was FUN!

It felt so odd to be running in the day light without a headlamp. It’s been weeks!

During breakfast,Β  A decided to celebrate our good fortune. Party hats were needed!

The lovely Annelies and Attune Foods recently sent us three boxes of their cereal to try.

The kiddos love ’em all (obviously look at A’s face)! I really like the Uncle Sam Original. It’s got a great crunch to it. I’ve been eating it plain with warmed up berries. Mmmm…Plus, I just love that up until a few years ago, it said “Natural Laxative Cereal” on the front of the box. No need for Metamucil! πŸ˜‰ The box of Crispy Brown Rice has healthified Rice Crispy Treats written all over it. I’m so on that!

I missed out taking pictures of my morning smoothie (Chocolate Raspberry may be my new favorite!) and lunch. I have had more than my fair share of these vegan sugar cookies dipped in chocolate frosting, during the past few days too

Because of Hurricane Sandy, trick-or-treating in our neighborhood is moved to Saturday. A Halloween Party for little kids was cancelled yesterday. I’m feeling a little bit over the Holiday which stinks since we haven’t really done much. Last year, the same thing happened. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s the new norm. I hope not!

Dinner last night was delicious! Weeknight Southwestern Pizza.

I pinned this recipe a few weeks ago. When I was pulling together recipes for my meal plan for this week, I stumbled upon it. It was really good but was still lacking something. I may have to play around with spices the next time I make it to give it a little more kick.

I hope every enjoys the day! Stay safe from the ghosts and zombies! ;0

Thanks to Jenn for hosting another WIAW!

  1. That workout actually does sound fun! I think that I would actually like to go on a run if it meant that I got to jump over obstacles like tree and dodge things like that πŸ™‚

Okay, those pumpkin oranges are seriously cute. And I must check out those vegan cookies!! And hmm.. that pizza sounds really different. I love twists on old favorites!

  2. I’m so glad that you survived the storm safely. We on the west coast were concerned about our east coast friends and family. It looks like it did make for an interesting run. Great picture..when I look at it I can almost smell the dampness after the rain.

What a great idea to use the clementines for mini jack-o-lanterns! They’re a lot easier to eat afterwards than real pumpkins!

  3. Glad you weathered the storm w/ little impact. We were the same here–the local media rather overhyped things for us!

Love those oranges. So cute and healthy, which is rare on this particular day. Also want some of that pizza right about now!

  4. Oh no- you had to paint it on?! That is a bit more work than a sharpie… I saw that idea too, but didn’t end up following through. Bummer that Halloween was postponed again. I know what you mean about being over it- L already had a school parade (and too much candy) and another party. We’ll do trick or treating tonight, and then I’m ready to move on.
