Running, Yoga and Barre – Oh My!

Hi Friends!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and all the Mama’s had a great Mother’s Day!

I am still fighting a cold/allergies thing but on Saturday I ventured out for a 5 mile run in the SUN! You don’t know how great it felt to feel and see the sun again. It rained every single day last week. It’s payback for all the beautiful weather we had all winter. It was just chilly enough at 6 a.m. to run in my Lululemon half zip that I bought a couple of weeks ago.

It really is so cute that I didn’t want to sweat in it! I loved the length of the hand warmers. Usually only half or less of my hand would be covered but the lulu half zip covers up to my knuckles. No gloves needed!

The run went well and my legs are finally beginning to feel back to normal after last weeks race. I must admit that it was nice to run “just because.” No numbers to meet just a run to enjoy the day.

Our local outdoor farmer’s market started up last weekend. We made a point to go this week. The growing season hasn’t really started yet around here so there was mostly starter plants of veggies and herbs. We stopped for a bit to enjoy a Lemon Ginger Scone (I need to recreate those ASAP) and to listen to the band. The kiddos really enjoyed dancing to the music and practicing their yoga moves.

What can I say, she’s a free spirit!

On Sunday, I started the day with a Barre class at Rasamaya.Β  I finally signed up for another punch card. I didn’t think my hiatus from the studio would be so long but time just got away from me. It was an awesome class and a great big kick in my butt to remind me that I need to do more than just running. Even though I strength train with weights at least 2x/week, my muscles from my head to my toes were shaking within seconds of starting a move. I’m still putting together my marathon training plan so I’m going to make sure Barre and yoga are penciled in for at least a couple of times a week. Plus, I just feel stronger after a Barre class.

Headstand Pose Challenge – Week 3

How’s the challenge coming along? Still trying to get dolphin plank and boat pose in everyday? It’s time to add on to our routine. You should be feeling stronger through your core so we are moving on to stretching out the hamstrings and getting the feel for being on your head.

Practice, practice, practice! Next week we are getting our feet off the floor! πŸ™‚

Question of the Day

What’s your favorite way to cross train?

  1. YES!! barre is such a great addition to running as I think I’ve mentioned to you before. It has helped my knees stay strong and injury-free and has helped my run-durance a TON too. So excited that you’re adding this to your rotation just in time for marathon training! πŸ™‚

  2. I would love to try a barre class sometime! I’d have to do a little research to figure out what’s near me… yay for farmer’s markets! It’s been odd this year to have one open year round, but I remember the excitement of the first day of market in the spring. I love your daughter’s yoga pose!
