5 Ways to Go Green for Earth Month

Go green for Earth Month | happyfitmama.com

Every day should be Earth Day but the month of April is Earth Month. Forty-two years ago, Earth Day was created to increase awareness and appreciation of our precious and increasingly fragile planet.

There are hundreds of problems and issues plaguing our environment like climate change, global warming and harmful pollution. It can seem overwhelming, but even one small step can make a world of difference.

Here are 5 easy ways to go green for Earth month if you are wondering where to start.

1. Reusable shopping bags. It’s one of the easiest things to do. Leave the bags in the trunk of your car and they are always there whenever you swing by the store to pick something up.

2. Turn the water off. While brushing your teeth, don’t let the water run. A super simple way to reduce your water use.

3. Walk more. When running errands, walk instead of driving your car. Or if you can’t walk straight from your house to the errands, park your car in one place and do some walking errands. Not only will you get a little exercise, you will drive you car less.

4. Reuse. I’m always amazed at what can be done with items that most people consider junk. Now you can sign up for the Natural Care Brigade. It focuses on giving a second life for empty and used toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, floss containers, mouthwash bottles, soap packaging, and deodorant containers. These would-be waste materials are converted into fun and unique products! CLICK HERE to get more details and sign up for FREE.

5. Recycle old toys. Tom’s of Maine is partnering with TerraCycle to keep broken toys out of landfills. This new program provides parents a way to teach their kids the importance of recycling. The broken toys are then turned into something useful like park benches or playground equipment. How cool is that? All you do is fill the box with broken toys. After it’s full, send it to TerraCycle using the prepaid shipping label. Unfortunately, or fortunately since so many people are interested, all 500 of the Toy Recycling boxes were given away. Hopefully, more will become available so we can further #startyounglivegreen.

  1. Love this! I’ve always been into being green – ever since I was in grade school and learned about recycling – I went straight home and start teaching my family ways to be green. My husband sometimes teases me for the amount of re-purposing and reusing that I do – but I’ll take that over throwing something away! Dinner this week includes some grilled as the weather is finally nice!
