Hi friends!
Today I ran the second installment of Laura‘s 5 by the 5th Virtual Race Series.
My plan for this series is to improve my 5k time with each month. If you recall, last month I had a little snafu – I ran 3.2 miles rather than 3.1! Opps! So this month I made it a point to remember 3.1, 3.1, 3.1, 3.1.
In keeping with consistency, I ran this race on the treadmill again. In hindsight, I should have planned to run it before Sunday. After all those dang hills, my legs are a little fatigued.
I had a hard time getting my head into the run and finding my stride. Nothing felt right and I was antsy. I did an easy 1 mile warm up before clearing the treadmill to start the timer fresh. Finally at mile 2 I started to feel awake and was able to kick the speed up to a sub 8:00 for the remainder of the run.
I finished with an easy 1 mile cool down. Last month my time was 24:25 for 3.2 miles so no improvement. Although I did run the right distance this time so that counts for something!
This run was also for putting in my #MilesofShame. Thankfully the 49ers came to life for the second half of the Super Bowl and I didn’t end up having to run 16 miles.
Race #3 of 13 in 2013! Only 10 more to go!

Nice job on your 5 by the 5th! I finished mine the other day. Have a great week Angela!

Thanks Lisa! You too!
Great job! I always run so much more slowly on the treadmill/dreadmill.
Good luck on the next ten!

Thanks! It’s funny but I feel faster on the treadmill.
I love that you’re using this to better your 5k time. Smart lady. I’m using it to try to keep steady miles right now. Nice job on that one!

Thanks Heather! I knew I was going to have to do the first few months on the treadmill so I picked the least amount of miles. hehe!
Great job girl! I love Laura’s series! I ran mine yesterday….I did triple duty…I ran the 5K for 5 by the 5th, Tackle the Miles, and #milesofshame.

Thanks! It was very convenient to have all races covered in one run. Although I really wish I didn’t have to do the miles of shame!
PS. Do you live in Maine?? I’ll be up that way sometime soon, and would love any pointers on can’t miss places along the coast! And of course, if you are close by and want a morning workout partner, I’d love to catch a run with a fellow blogger!

I live in on the seacoast of New Hampshire which borders Maine. Where are you going exactly? Email me: happyfitmama@gmail.com if you want tips. I mostly know Portland and south. I’d love to get together for a run too!
Yay! Nice job getting the miles in. I agree with Tiffany- I have a much harder time handling speed on the treadmill, I’d much rather be outside where the pace is not glaring back at me.
I’m sure your spring runs will be speedier. Love the double duty with other virtual events, too. There are so many virtual races happening this week!

Trust me, I’d much prefer to be outside but the treadmill is my only option during the week. Boo!
It was nice that I could lump everything together in one run…why not?
Great job Angela!! Like Laura and Tiffany, I tend to run slower on the treadmill. I think that it’s a mental thing like I don’t think that I can run faster than X mph. I too love that you’re using the series to improve your 5K time. 3 for 2013 already! Awesome!

I’m the total opposite…I push myself more on the treadmill. Probably because it seems easier to me and I don’t have to worry about being exhausted and having to run 5 miles more to get home.
Always great to have some added motivation to get your run in.. either miles of shame or 5 by 5, it sometimes gets you to do something you might not have otherwise. Nicely done.

Not sure if miles of shame is motivation…more like obligation!
hehe!
Killing two birds with one stone–I like it! I am impressed you even attempted to run a hard 5k a few days after a 10-miler! Recovery is a slow process for me…well done. And now lots of time to still fit in another 3 by June.

Great job on your run! I think that’s a great time but I know what you mean when you want to see improvements. I bet by next month you’ll see a improvement!

We kind of have the same goal for this series, though my faster isn’t quite as your faster.
Great job on this after all those crazy hills the day before. You’re a rockstar!!

I feel like an idiot. I just ran another 5k that I need to write up and lets just say I have the miles all wrong.
Glad you didn’t have to run the 16 miles!
