10 Mother Runner Questions

There’s a little thing that’s been going around the blog world lately thanks to the wonderful Mama’s at Another Mother Runner. I love Sarah and Dimity’s books, Run Like a Mother and Train Like a Mother. Fun reads with great tips on running and training whether you are a mother or not. Last week, they posted 10 Mother Runner Questions on their blog. I love these things so I thought I’d play along.

Best Run Ever – It would have to be my first half marathon in 2007. I mentioned it last week as one of my most memorable runner’s high moments. That race was when I caught the running bug. A close second is my personal distance record (PDR) run of 16 miles back in July. I felt like I was on cloud nine after that run. Three words that describe my running – Enjoyable, gratifying, thankful.

My go-to running outfit – Depends on the season. Right now it’s my Nike skirt (see pic above), a lululemon shirt, BIC Band, and always Mizuno.

Quirky habit while running – My thumbs automatically go up when I run. I’ve tried to fight it but they always pop back up.

Morning, midday or evening – Morning hands down!

I won’t run outside when it’s – Icy. That’s just an injury waiting to happen either from falling or a car hitting you. However, rain, snow, heat, cold, darkness – I’ll run in it!

Worst injury and how I got over it – Patellor Femoral Syndrome. Working my way out of it still. Foam rolling, stretching, strengthening, physical therapy, massage therapy, Graston Technique, cross training, and Kinesio Tape.  Hope it all works!

I felt most like a badass mother runner when – My first race 4.5 months after my twins were born in 2010. My training for that 1/2 marathon was horrible. I wanted to spend as much time with my babies as possible so my long runs were cut short some days. When I crossed the finish line, I burst into tears when I saw Ron and the kids. I just kept repeating, “I did it! I did it!” I was so happy to have finished. My time sucked but I’m glad I set that goal for myself postpartum. You wouldn’t believe the comments and congratulations I got after the race when I was pushing the big ass double stroller around with a medal around my neck. I truly felt like a badass mother runner then!

Glad to be sitting down and DONE!

Next race isSmuttynose 1/2 marathon on September 30th. It was supposed to be my first marathon so it’s going to be bittersweet to run. I’m still not even close to being back to 100% with my knee so my expectations are set pretty low. I’m not doing it for time. Just for fun. If I have to walk a portion, so be it.

Potential running goal for 2013 – I’ve still got a marathon in my sites. If I don’t get one in before the end of 2012, I’m going to try again in 2013. I’ve been looking into possibly running the Boston Marathon with a charity next year. Other goals? Maybe a racecation to Disney World? I really want to do a relay race. Hood to Coast, Ragnar Cape Cod, Reach The Beach. A tweet was going around last week about the possibility of a NH Blogger team for RTB next year. Now that would be fun!

It’s your turn now! Feel free to keep the fun going by posting your own 10 Mother Runner Questions on your blog no matter if you are a mother or not! If you don’t have a blog, leave an answer or two in the comments.

I’m guest posting for Meredith today on her blog Dare You To…It’s all about Foam Rolling!

  1. I love these posts. So fun getting to know bloggers better. And I’m kind of with you on the ice. That’s a little trickier than I care for. I used to do that with my thumbs when I started to get tired. My husband and I started calling them my turkey timers – like that thing that goes in a turkey and pops up when it’s done.

  2. I’ve been writing my ten questions post too! I’ll probably put it up near the end of the week… head up, I have the same answer to my bada$$ mother question. There’s nothing like racing with your infant watching to make you feel hard core!
